VPN via Verizon here. No problem. Slower than a direct connection with the air card, but certainly usable for any kind of office stuff and email. I do just do a direct connect without VPN for the non-work stuff like YouTube videos and streaming radio.

Those of you connecting to VPN with aircards, are you using the provider's software (Verizon = VZAccess Manager), or do you go directly through the OS (Windows = Network Connections Dial-up setup)?
I use both, but mostly the VZW software. I find I get a better connection going through the Network Connection if I have a marginal signal.
My wife works out of our 5er and like you she has a VPN Router. My wife's company IT Tech has told us that wireless will not work due to security and stableness the network reguires. Most Parks that have Cable TV to site can also get High Speed Internet. This is what we use and no problems.

It interesting that people don't think VPN will work over a satellite. I also work from the road using a Datastorm with Hughes.net through Motosat. We switched from VPN to WISSH a couple years ago, but I still occassionally need to VPN in on certain servers and have never had any real issues with it other than being a little slow. WISSH is considerably faster which is why we prefer it. I use the WISSH on a daily basis, do data entry over it, etc. all without more than the usualy remote issues.

I am not one that thinks it does not work, but my statement was that it didn't work well enough for what I needed to do. I found that I could get a VPN connection just fine, but would have to shut down all the Windows net services that were not absolutely necessary, check email through Outlook Web Client, and do most of my development work over SSH using Vi. That would be fine, except that I bill by the hour, and that is not the most productive way for me to work. My meetings are scheduled through Outlook Calendar, I run NetMeetings, etc. Unfortunately, I am a slave to the corporate environment in which my client wishes me to belong.
I still have my tripod setup riding around in the basement, but I did not renew my contract after it ran out a couple of months ago. I will probably sell it and get a new system if I am ever in the position where I don't have to make a living over VPN. Until then, I will just have to schedule where we stop accordingly. And, so far, that has not been a real issue for us.

trkrhelp - Camelot RV is one of our favorite parks! We were there around this time last year in the Bishop spot for a couple of weeks. We got our puppy while we were there, and named him Malabar

Good luck selling a tripod setup - I tried the tripod for a couple weeks and opted for the Datastorm. When we're moving we're usually on the road every day and setting that tripod up on a daily basis just wasn't practical for me. When we moved into the RV fulltime I ebayed the tripod and it went for $75 + nearly that much in shipping.
Camelot is our favorite park - we're in the space right by the gate facing out on the river. I watch the sun come up from my desk every morning and it's just a really peaceful spot. We'll be heading out in a couple weeks, but plan to be back here next winter. I have an office here in Melbourne so this is convienent as well.
I'm working from my RV now, using a VPN over WiFi, also using a softphone and a separate VONAGE line. I can get about 500kbs up and down with this WiFi service, just enough to squeak by. I've also had a few days where the internet was flaky for a few hours - fortunately I was able to get through it. Cell phone is a great backup.
If I were to do this full time (we're only out for 2 months this time) I would get an aircard.
btw - my cisco VPN client has worked in pretty much every WiFi service I've tried except one where they were inexplicably blocking a port it seemed. I had to hustle over to a library to get e-mail that week and ended up taking more vacation time than I'd planned.
