My wife and I would like to travel to other cities in the West,
and ride on their bicycle trails..if you have any info about a nice place to ride bikes and sight see, please post the info on this forum..we are looking for easy paved trails, NO dirt trails.
For those of you that like to ride, here is what our town of Redding, California has to offer.
Redding, California..has very easy access to the bike trail and
"GREAT" RV parking, for any size RV, behind our auditorium.
From I-5 take 299W and you will be traveling west...Take the Auditorium Drive exit, just after you cross over the river.
it's about a mile west of I-5. Drive around behind the auditorium and you will find plenty of FREE parking, the road circles all the way around the auditorium....lots of room.
Reddings bike trail is 12 feet wide of paved asphalt, and is over
12 miles long..you can ride over 3 bridges that cross the Sacramento river, go through the city park, right past the new public swimming pool and then up the river to the single span foot bridge which you can ride across to the other side then continue back down the river another 6 miles and end up where you started..most of the time you will be right along and next to the Sacramento..lots of people actually walk or run on this same trail, it's very beautiful.
You will also cross the new Sundial bridge, which is something in itself to see. (google..Sundial Bridge) and there is a nice cafe right by the bridge, also the Arboritum is right there by the bridge.
There are also several nice public toilets along the trail, and they are free..
The bike trail is very easy for most bike riders, there are a few hills but they are not very steep. My wife and I are both 71 years old, so if we can make it, I figure anyone can make it..hehehe
We ride it all the time, weather permitting.
The city has recently added an extention to the North end of the trail, but I havent been up their yet..it will be my next ride.
Bring your bikes and stop by Redding, you will really have a good time.
Now, please...tell us about your bikes trails..
Thanks,
HARRY

1. Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Very flat. Some roads are closed on Sundays to allow bike riding on the roads.
2. Pulgas Water Temple, Crystal Springs Reservoir, San Mateo, where Hetch Hetchy water arrives from Yosemite Park and goes into the reservoir.
3. The town of Davis, where UC Davis is, is relatively famous for being bike friendly. Very flat. I don't know anything about the scenery.
4. UC Santa Barbara is bike friendly.
5. There are some nice bike paths around Pacific Grove at Cannery Row.
When my son was around 12 I dropped him off at the top of the road at MT, Shasta. The 14 miles of coasting got to be a little boring for him. I followed in the truck and clocked him at 45 mph. At that speed you don't waste your time trying to pedal. Just tuck and coast.
Around 1968 I rode my 10 speed from Antioch to Sacramento along the levee. Very flat. However, due to increases in traffic I am not sure I would recommend that, especially on a weekend.
There is a flat paved bike path from south San Jose to Morgan Hill. Not a destination, but if you were in the area anyway it might be worthwhile. It follows highway 101 and the river, passing a golf course and a radio controled airplane park.

In Eugene,Or. there are many, many miles of bike trails. They go clear across the whole city. There are dedicated bike lanes everywhere too. Some of the streets are also bike routes; with only local traffic allowed. Eugene is also going to have the Summer Pre-Olympics.
Eugene,Or. is also the running capital of the World.

The "Sante Fe Trail" runs along the CO front range. I know it goes at least from Denver to CO Springs, and I think it continues on to Pueblo. We've never ridden it, but walked along some of it in CO Spgs. Should be a nice long, scenic ride.
The best city for biking in N America has to be Ottawa with over 100 miles of bike path. Some city buses have bike racks to take you out to the burbs or cross town. Ottawa Biking

Seattle has lots of improved bicycle trails, the Burke-Gillman being perhaps the longest from Kenmore to northwest Seattle. See Seattle Bicycle Maps for the whole system.
Portland is also big on bicycling particularly the downtown area. See Portland Bicycling.
