I am having a problem with my generator and I was wondering if anyone could offer me any technical advice on what to do. I just bought a 95 Southwind Storm and the generator worked fine when I first cranked it up. The last time I started it, it seemed to run a little rough. I was going to check the appliances but when I turned the mircowave on the microwave shut off. I tried it again and it shut off again. I then noticed that the generator was running very rough so I turned the generator off. When I tried to restart the generator it would not start. It turns over but will not fire. I have almost a 1/2 tank of gas so low fuel should not be the problem. I checked and it is getting gas. I checked the fuse by the starter switch on the generator and it was not blown. I checked the GFI in the bathroom. It would not reset so I plugged the MH into electric source from my house and then reset the GFI. The GFI has a red light on. I checked the appliance while I had it hooked to my house electric and they worked fine. I noticed that some of the electical outlets(not all of them) were not working when I had it hooked to the house electric. I checked to see if the breakers inside the motor home had been tripped but they had not. I reset the breaker on the generator but that didn't help. Is there something else that is simple that I have not tried (like another GFI that I cannot find or another fuse that I don't know about or another reset button that I did not see). If not, does anyone know what I should check out on the generator? If there are several things tell me what to check first and what next and so on. Thank you.
On the generator: Check the oil level. If it's got oil, and I mean RIGHT UP TO THE MARK, then check the oil level switch.
Then check that the carb is getting gas. Put some gas in a can with a hose to the fuel inlet on the carb. If it runs smooth, the fuel filter or the gas line itself is bad.
Once the generator is running, then I suspect the GFI problem will go away.
Not to hijack the thread...but does the Microlite 2800 have a oil level switch.
Mine was over filled with oil so I took some out and not it wil only run about 30 sec. then turn off.
