Does anyone know if there are certain things to check on a built in propane tank? We are looking over a 1978 Minnie Winnie tonight which we are most likely buying. Just wanted to know a little more about the propane tank...TIA!

I would take a hammer and rap on it in any areas you can get to to check for it being rusted out.
Check to see if it has gas in it. Good indication that it is good.
Don't have to hit hard! Just enough to sound it or in some cases put a hole in the bottom!
I would expect on that age to possible needing new hose connecting tank to iron pipe, and a new regulator.

You can have it inspected by a larger propane dealer. I bought a 1977 Diamond, last fall, and have yet to get mine inspected. We just didn't use the LP on our maiden voyage, before storing for the winter. You could even have to get the tank replaced on something that old.

Oh I'm sure the seller will appreciate that!!! Pay the small amount to have the propane tank properly inspected by an authorized service technician if you really have a concern before you buy the rig. Please don't go rapping on the seller's equipment with a hammer!!!

Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!

Yeah I read that and thought (1) I would never have the guts to do that, (2) I wouldn't know what it was supposed to sound like if I did!

I am not all THAT concerned. I was just wondering if there was anything really obvious to look for. It was empty the first time we looked at it so that had me a bit concerned. He said he would fill it up for tonight though so we could make sure all the appliances work and he could show us how to work everything. Thank you all for the replys though!
