I don't wanna, but I gotta - it's just the way the travel time works out! On a Thursday evening about 5:00PM we will be approaching the Houston area in the rig and towing the FROG.
My question - go straight through on I-10 (with the associated high density go home traffic), taking it easy and letting everyone cut-in
OR
Use the 610 'bypass' which should be (may possibly be) better to get to the west side of town??
It looks a bit further on the map, but if it moves reasonably well, it could be the option of choice.
I would really appreciate your knowledge and experience in this particular situation. Thanks!

you might as well go thru town on I-10 cause you're going to run into most of the traffic west of the 610 loop. It will be sloooooooow

Yes. Go through town. Take it slow. Stay in second lane from the right so you won't be in the way of those who exit and sometimes the right lane ends at an exit. The 610 is longer and I think it is rougher in spots.

Stay on I10. No matter what road your on in Houston it will be congested. Stop somewhere nice and have a leisurable dinner until around 8PM, then drive through Houston.

I 12th the stay on I-10. If I were you I would stop at the Cracker Barrell in Baytown have a nice dinner and get back on the road around sevenish. That way most of the heavy west bound traffic on I-10 will have diminshed by the time you get to that side of town.

No way around it, straight through on I-10. At that time of day it will be conjested. Pack a lunch and maybe a book on tape.

Another great place to stop for dinner is Al T's in Winnie, Texas. Left off the interstate at Hwy 124 and on the left about 1/3 to 1/2 a mile or so. Haven't been there in several years, but the food is great. A combo of American and Cajun! I believe there would be room for your rig, but anyone more familiar might have more info!

Might as well stop and get something to eat as suggested. You're going to be stopped or going so slow you'll think you are anyway whether 610 or I10. The beltway is a possibility but it can get pricey and that time of day can be slow too, especially at toll booths.

Which direction are you heading after you clear Houston? If South, then there are some options.

There's a Crackerbarrel in Baytown---I'd stop and have dinner---then proceed thru Houston so you be on the tail end of the outbound traffic
