I will pay to play, I love pulling my house down the highway, and I love pulling into an rv site and see all the new friends we have not met yet, or met last year. This is an awesome lifestyle and I am totally onboard with all the optimists. Last summer we got rid of the 425 hp Malibu Corvette Ski Boat. Had it since 1997, and ran through a ton of gas. This is nothing compared to what that one dimensional gas guzzler drank. That boat was the coolest thing ever but the TV pullin the hotel is where it's at, plus we can sleep in it, cook in it, live in it, hang out outside under the awning when it's raining, all kinds of options, and I'll pay to go do that with great folks like all of you. In fact I'm heading out at 6:00am Saturday morning for Panama City Beach....see ya there !

It's kind of funny how things are so a** backwards in our country. We live in the greatest country in the world, and I love it here, but all it takes to bring us to our knees is gas prices going up. I know there's alot more to it than that but our government spends billions on a tax rebate plan to "stimulate" our economy but what are people going to do with these rebates? If you're like me, I'm going to use it to pay bills (probably taxes), not to go on a economy reviving spending spree. Then next year I have to claim this so called "tax rebate" as income on my tax return. Does this make sense to anyone else?

Oh, and by the way, guess who gets to pay back these billions of dollars in tax rebates? You got it. We do when they raise taxes to recoup it.

I actually got off the point I was trying to make. Wouldnt it make more sense to lower prices so people can afford to travel and spend money for our economy? I'm not just talking fuel, but hotels, airline tickets, food at restaurants, etc.

Thank God I have camping, and you guys of course, to take my mind off of these things. HAHAHA.

Ken

I'm glad we live within a days drive of a lot of great camping spots. We did the big trip to Yellowstone last summer, that was $900 in fuel, would be $1200 this summer. I realize its still cheaper than a hotel and buying meals in restaurants, but it still makes a difference. There will be fewer attractions, admissions fees and other things along the way might be cut out of the trip.

Yep, think I will change my travel plans. Instead of blasting down the road at 70 mph I may back off to 60 mph to save a few mpg.
Maybe that will teach them oil companies a thing or two.

If supply and demand were actually reflected in the fuel prices, I wouldn't be quite as upset. The prices are totally manipulated by the oil people world wide. Why is diesel 50 cents or more a gal. than regular since it cost less to make. The station closest to us some times changes the price two or three times a day--mostly higher. When we are warned that gas will go to $4/gal, it is not a warning, it is a promise that it will.

The real problem is the affect higher fuel prices has on all aspects of our lives. Inflation went up 1% for the month of Jan alone. The not well thought out law to increase the use of ethenol has driven up food prices and has done nothing to help global warming other than make the farmers (corporations) rich and run up the national debt some more.

What are we doing about it personally? A little more thought about coupling trips together. We have a reunion to do on the west coast this summer and will still go. Maybe eat out a little less (better for us since we're diabetic). We'll be ruthless in throwing out "stuff" to lighten our load--Goodwill will appreciate it. Still have to live! The station with the cheapest price gets my business.

A promenant world leader, when asked by a reporter today about the prospect that U.S. gas prices could be up to $4.00/gallon later this summer replied, "That's interesting. I hadn't heard that. ... I know it's high now."

We won't change our plans, but we usually stay close to home any way. We have 6 state parks with in 50 miles of home and with DH being disabled, we get a great discount. Our favorite park is only 14 miles from home. Plus, if we are close the older kids usually come by, maybe to have a cook out or swim. By staying close to home, we can go more often.

We also look after our Mom's they are both in their 80's and live alone. We like to be close in case they need us, and can bring them to the camp ground for the day.

We do have one long trip(at least for us) planned for this summer. DH told our DIL, who has MS, that we would take her and the grand kids to visit her parents. The live outside of Chicago. We are taking the 5th wheel, dropping them off and spending a few days alone and doing some site seeing. We are looking forward to it. If we cook our own meals, we can still spend some money on doing a few things.

This may sound crazy but, here it goes.

For most my life, I have been told by the media that there is an oil shortage. But after more then 3 decades of driving there is still oil coming out of the ground. We have bio-fuel now. We have hybrid cars. We have the most fuel efficient vehicles ever. Decade after decade we save more oil. Where is it? Why can't we use it? SO.... the way I figure it, we should all use more fuel. That way the oil companies will make more money and then they can lower the prices. There are reasons after reasons as to why the price is going up. Hurricane season, war, refinery problems. So what will be next. A fuel truck broke down forcing the price up???

So how will it effect me. Well I will do my part to lower prices by buying all I need to burn. Or just park more drive less.

May be we need to change stategies and not give up rving. For one, I really love rving. Even though gas prices are very low in Mexico, they have increased too. We are looking for a more fuel effecient tow vehicle and are also looking at finding a better trailer to tow. We used to have a Trailmanor and just loved it. It was low-profile, easy to tow, saved a ton on gas and gave us 33ft of living space. There are smaller, lighter options and folding trailer options too that come complete with all the comforts. SUV manufacturers are coming out with hybrids such as the Durango with the Hemi engine. It may not be the biggest TV and tow a 40ft house but my point is that there are options if we are really concerned about gas prices.

BTW, the old Patty wagon is in the shop for a hard-to-find problem that could prevent us from taking our two week Spring break trip. We decided last night that if we have to we will get a tent, cots, folding table and chairs, and make the best of it. We aren't staying home. Being in the outdoors is too hard to pass up.
