I've found that the Protect-A-Tow does a very good job. It still lets some road grime through but at a much reduced rate. I've also noticed that the back end of the MH is a LOT cleaner and the rear camera does not fog over near as much as it does without the Protect-A-Tow in place.

Good topic. I find these posts very informative. I bought a new SPORTSCOACH ELITE last July at the Centreville, MI rally and it had no rock shield in the back so I had the dealer put on one of those nice looking hard rubber/shiny metal laminated, heavy mud and rock shields with the word SPORTSCOACH prominantly displayed. It turns out that the coach is so low that driving it out of the fairly level parking lot it bent and twisted the rock shield all up and jammed it up between the exhaust pipe and the body of the coach. Fortunately I didn't have to pay for that one and I replaced it with a grass skirt. So far (on paved roads only, mostly interstates), my Saturn dinghy has survived well with no bra or winshield protection. I do think it might be a good idea to cover the winshield.

I can definately vouch for Protect-a-Tow, it works very well. By no means is it a pain to use, it is very simple to put it on and very effective. The nice thing is it protects the car, the coach and the tow bar. We also found that the back up camera stays much cleaner while driving in wet weather. We've tried other devices but have been very happy with this one.

If you ever drive behind a motorhome that has one of these big gravel flippers across the rear of them, you change lanes VERY fast with all the sand and gravel these things flip up!

There are lots of posts on here from people that have damage on their toads from these things.

I believe my rockguard did save damage to my toad (at that time a 2001 Saturn SL2). We were up in Canada (just superfluous background). I was behind an SUV. I saw something in the road but did not realize how large it was until the SUV swerved around it. (Again, more superfluous background.) It was a large strip of retread sitting, curled, on it's side. There was no way for me to swerve the rig and toad. When we ran over it, it took out the base plate and springs of our HWH levelers. This all shot back (or more correctly we went on forward without them) and under the toad. The toad suffered no damage. If the rockguard had not been there, I have no doubt that the base plates, springs and retread would have been up in the front of the toad. That would have left some serious dinks and maybe smashed lights or windshield.

Glad I had it and don't want to find out what would have happened without it.

There are several types of rock guards.. Some work well, some have a negative effect, You need to research

I use a "RV-Underskirt" and am very pleased with what it's done for me

Protect-a-tow works better then anything out there.

Protect-a-Tow or equivilant is the only way to go! Mud flap, rock guards, etc. only worsen the damage by bringing up the rocks. Just ask anyone who has traveled to Alaska, Mexico, etc.

On the Protect-a-Tow website it states: "Protect-a-Tow may not be suitable for Diesel pusher Motorhomes with rear exhaust"

Anyone out there with a DP using this product? More importantly anyone know why?
