The Parkway maybe longer but, you won't be going through New York City and across the GW Bridge. 287 to the Parkway to the Turnpike is a much better choice.

I don't know where your located in MA but I go 90W to 87S to to 287 down to NJTP, bypassing nyc, Gw bridge and GSPKY.

NY 95 and the GW bridge can a harrowing drive. 287 to the GSP to the NJP pike is okay although the GSP can be very busy during peak times. 84 miles longer or no, the GSP/NJP route is prefered by many over the GW bridge. Anything you'd specifically like to know?

The way i would do it would be I-84 to I-87south at Newburg then stay on I-87 till you come to rt17 south at Suffern, its the same exit as the I-287 bypass, follow rt17s for about 15miles then merge left on to I-80 east for about 2miles then merge right and you are on the NJT.Or you could stay on the I-287 bypass and meet up with the NJt south of the city.

We go from SouthCoast MA.to South Jersey and/or Lancaster Cty PA on a regular basis. We take I195 to I95 to 87/287 across the TappanZee Bridge to the GSP to the Jersey Pike and have found that even if there are a few more miles avoiding NYC is worth the extra miles and often it is less time. Because the traffic in CT on 95 can heavy if we don't have the RV we take the Milford Parkway (exit 38)to the Merritt Parkway to get to 287 to the TappanZee. The Merritt Parkway is an older limited access road that is very nice. The overpasses are very pretty, each architecturally different.

As a local I would follow Jambo's instruction. The GSP takes a western loop that adds the mileage.
