I'm about to order the equal-i-zer hitch. I was just wondering if there is an advantage to getting the 1200lbs bars over the 1000lbs bars. My new trailer will have a dry hitch weight of 750lbs. thanks, keith

If you ever trade for a different TT with heavier tongue weight, you'll be equipped. Other than that, no advantage that I know of.

My 31' trailer has a hitch weight of almost 900lbs. I am using the 10,000lb equal-i-zer hitch with no problems. Even in the cross winds!

You'll be best off getting bars matched as closely to your tongue weight as possible. Too much bar will make the ride bouncy and cause the rig to porpoise.

Call Equalizer 1-800-478-5578. They were a great help to me when I had to make that same decision last week.

I`de go with the 1000lb bars! like mike said to much bar is not a good thing! and could cause loss of traction in sever situations.
Go with what matches the tongue weight. my dealer swapped my 800lb bars for 1200lb bars when I picked up our new, heavier TT and didn`t cost extra.

PLEASE NOTE DRY HITCH WEIGHT HAS NO MEANING!!!!
You need to know actual hitch weight when fully loaded, and that needs to be about 13% of the fully loaded TT weight. If you do not know those numbers, ASSUME 13% OF TT GVWR for tongue weight. Then get bars for that weight.
You can indeed use bars that are oversized, but the ride will be worse, and trailer contents more apt to bounce all over. Bars act as springs.

Go to equalizerhitch.com. Select Tech Specs, Select your max trailer wt. and tongue wt. They will tell you the equalizer system with bars that you should purchase. Most likely if your max trailer wt is under 10,000 lbs and your tongue wt. is under 1000 lbs you will purchase the 10,000 lb with 1000 lb bar set (part no. 90-00-10000). Toggle down the page and enter the information required to pick the right hitch shank.

My $.02/cents. This is one time that over-kill is NOT in your best interest. One needs the "flexing" abilities in the equalizer....or as they have said, you will get a really harsh ride, for TV and TT.

If the bars are a LITTLE more than you need, thats ok
but if the bars are WAY more than you need-that can cause problems
I say stick with 1000 as long as you don't put too much weight in the front
