I have a 2000 f 250 v-10 4x4.I am looking at a fifth wheel,a Wildcat.Dry weight 9285,gvwr 12000.I am not of the weight rating on my truck.I guess what I am really worried about is if this truck will pull the trailer power wise.We really like the Wildcat but we are also looking at a Salem, dry weight 7545,gvwr 11285.Thanks in advance for any advice.
If you have 4.30 gears, then yes, it will have the power to tow it. If you have 3.73 gears, it will be sluggish, and you will spend a lot of time in 2nd gear (maybe even 1st on really steep section). But it will still do the job.

I tow a 34 ft TT with my V10 with the 3:73 . It is not sluggish nor have I ever had to put in first gear. I do wish I had the 4:10 tho so I could tow more in OD
and more power in the mountains. The V10 is the best gas eng that I have ever had and I have owned a bunch ! This is my 3rd one
My previous truck was a 2001 f-250 4x4 with the V-10 and power was never an issue towing my Cedar Creek with a GVWR a little higher than the Wildcat you are looking at. I don't recall ever downshifting to second and certainly never to first and it didn't have 4:30 gears and I took it through some serious hills in WV.
I liked the V-10 so much that I looked for months to find my new F-350 with the V-10. Every dealer had tons of diesels they couldn't get rid of but no V-10s. I ended up going over 100 miles away to get what I wanted.

I've been towing a Montana 5th wheel with my 99 Ford, F-250 since it was new. No problems at all. As with the previous post, it was a bit sluggish with the 3:73 gearing. I changed the gears to 4:10. That helped a lot. My 5th wheel is 9,200 lbs dry and gvwr of 12,400. It's a good truck.
I had a 2002 F250 V10 CC SB 4X4. Great truck! Great motor!! Our trailer was about 12,000-13,000 lbs. The truck pulled it good with the 3.73 gears. I changed them out with 4.30 gears and WOW what a difference. The best $1500.00 I ever spent on that truck. Forget engine and exhaust mods, changing the gears is all that truck/engine needs!

+1!!!
I 'had' 3.73's in my Ex. When I tugged my 7500# TT up Powder River and Togwotee passes (Wyoming) both at ~9700'...I WAS IN FIRST GEAR
I now have 4.30's in my Ex...and a 9000# TT...I pulled 5 mile long 7% grades in WV on I-64 this summer in 3rd gear at 70mph...if I dropped to 60mph...I needed 2nd gear due to RPM and power band of the V10...so 70mph equated to 3200RPMs whereas 60mph equated to 4400...I chose to pull slightly faster than I like to run lower RPMs for those few miles...
I'm planning Vail and Eisenhower passes in the Rockies this summer...I may still find 1st gear due to the massive altitudes...don't know...but I wouldn't be surprised...
4.30's behind a 2V V10 with 4R100 is the SINGLE best thing you can do for her (IMO).
