I want to be able to carry extra clothing on a clothes rod in the back seat of my 2006 GMC Sierra crew cab diesel dually. There is no clothes hook on each side as was typical in past vehicles. There is a closed loop grab bar right beside the headrests of the front seats but that is too far forward for a clothes rod. Has anyone found a way to solve this problem? I don't know if something could be screwed into the roof liner that would hold the kind of weight a clothes rod would generate.

how about a shower bar, they go between the walls in a shower and screw tight. and they have rubber pads so not to hurt anything.

That was my exact thinking.

A shower bar or a large curtain tension rod ought to work.

GM apparently decided to save a buck or two and not include the hooks. My Mom raised heck with the Chevy dealer when they bought a new truck a few years ago and it came without hooks. The dealer provided them as a goodwill gesture since my folks are long time customers. They bought an 08 last month, I need to ask her if it came with hooks or were a dealer added option, lol.

Sorry I never responded to your suggestions but to be honest I forgot I posted this question. About a week later we decided to sell the truck. Would you believe me if I told you we sold it because it didn't have the rear clothes rod hooks? Didn't think so. Actually we finally decided on the new fifth wheel we were going to buy for our future full timing adventures and the weight of the unit far exceeded the capacity of the GMC dually which is only 15,500lbs. So we upgraded to a 2008 Ford F450 diesel King Ranch version which, by the way, does have the rear hooks for a clothes rod. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Hey, freestyle, glad to see someone else spent the big bucks to get the hooks! Sure do like those Ford hooks!

My 08 has hooks..... I think.
I just pull down the "oh **** bar" and hang clothes right behind the seat in mine.

On my '05 Chevy there are little nub-like (Is that a word?) hooks molded into the rear grab handles. I made a clothes rod by drilling a hole through each end of an old broom handle, pass a length of 1/4 inch rope through each of the holes and tie it into a loop. Hang the loops over the "hooks", and you're all set.
