I am taking the family to Colorado in July for camping. We are looking to stay some where on the western slope. My wife and I grew up in Colorado but didn’t do much camping there. We like the Glenwood Spring area but can’t seam to find much in the area. We will only have about 5 days we can camp (once we get there) before we have to return to real life in hot Texas. I would love to hear some ideas and reviews about some campground there. As I look at websites I see everyone thinks they have the best campground around and then I look closer and find reviews that are not so great i.e. small spaces, spaces to close together, on and on. We have a 30ft TT with one slide so I will need more than a postage stamp to park on, I would also like to have water and elect as I do not have generator.

Thanks,

Steve

While it is not on the western slope, my personal favorite is Mueller State Park near Colorado Springs. Sites have electric, but no personal water. Spigots are located here and there around the park and there is a dump station nearby. Book early, this place goes fast!

HEY,

Check out Lake City...Lots of RV parks. Or Creede...campgrounds.

Silverton has RV parks in town and nat'l forest campgrounds outside of town.
Beautiful scenery in either of these areas.

Have Fun,

Nice Forest Service campground at McPhee Reservoir near Dolores and Cortez in Southwest Colorado. Some sites has full hookups, some partial. Some can be reserved. Near Mesa Verde National Park, Anasazi Heritage Center, Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, San Juan National Forest, Rico, Telluride.

You may want to post this in the more appropriate "Campgrounds Forum" since many more people visit that Forum than only members with travel trailers.

I would hit the area down around Durango and Silverton and explore from there. I love Glenwood, but if I had to base camp and had five days (you'll consider calling in and playing hookie) I'd hit Durango. Many places to choose from there.

We have been to Sylvan State park, but it is about 1-2 hours SE from Glenwood, east on I-70, then south on a paved county road. There are a few State Parks that I am not familiar with closer to Glenwood. CO state parks typically have all hookups. Check the State Park Website.

I have to agree with larryd about Lake City. It's such a beautiful area and there are several nice campgrounds. Lots of friendly local folks there as well.

Glenwood Springs-try Glenwood Canyon Resort, a nice campground with RV sites(full hookups), tent sites, camping cabins, resort cabins, a white waterrafting outfitter. It's just off I-70 at exit 119 no name. Check it out at www.glenwoodcanyonresort.com
