When topping off your battery you used distilled water correct? Just wanted to make sure.

Yes, and charge it up after adding or it could go flat. Usually add every month while in use. I use a turkey baster. Put on rubber gloves if you have them to avoid acid burns. Fill to inside rings not above.

Top off a fully charged battery only. A fully charged battery will have a higher level than a partially discharged one. If the battery is discharged just make sure there is enough water to cover the plates.

This is a rather long discussion on batteries but has a lot of good information. Just skim over the parts that don't apply to you.The 12volt Side of Life

I bought a Nalgene bottle to make filling batteries easy:

It usually doesn't take much water, and with these bottles, I can easily control how much I add without spilling any.

trop-a-cal wrote: Fill to inside rings not above. According to MH magazine this month you don't fill to the ring, go about 1/8" below it.
However, since I have 4oz of mineral oil in each cell (cuts down on amount of water used and corrosion in the battery compartment) I do fill till the oil touches the ring.
Also, some "distilled water" is actually just filterd city water and probably still contains minerals. I look for "steam distilled" since that's what REAL distilled water is.

Remember batteries not fully charged will look low when they are not. Water should be over the plates but 1/4" below the BOTTOM of the filler opening. Most people overfill other wise there is not much chance of rust and a mess in the batttery area.
