Hello everyone,
We're new to the Forums so please forgive us if this is a topic frequently posted! Planning a trip to Disney in FL next month. Going with 2 adults and our 5 kids.... and probably NOT the dog (but it is possible she'll go). Ft. Wilderness is obviously the King of all campgrounds and I wish I could stay there again but its not in the budget this time around so we'd love to hear opinions and reviews on other CGs in the Orlando vicinity. We're planning to do the Disney parks this time, so prefer to stay closer to those than the others like Universal etc.
We looked at KOA Ft. Summit and that seems reasonable. Also looked at KOA Orlando/Kissimmee and while that one looks nicer... the reservation page online says our party size exceeds their allowable numbers (I guess they limit you to 6, and we have 7 total).
We'd drive to the parks if need be, but I thought one or more of the local CGs offer shuttles like area hotels do to the parks?
Any input is welcome and thanks in advance!

I would think that since you're doing the Disney parks, FW would be easier all the way around. This is considered off season(I think). Staying on site has always saved us money in the long run. Did you check rates and availability? Anyway you go... have a great time!!

We stayed in November and the price wasn't much more than 30-something per night as I recall. It is so convenient to be able to walk a block or two and catch one of the buses to wherever you want to go. I agree with the other post. You will probably save the difference in other areas if you stay as close as possible. have fun! Wish I was going.

We did not like KOA Ft. Summit. Went once and that was one too many times. Too many cats, 6-8 every time you opened your door, climbing all over you and your rig. The overall upkeep of the place was just not being done. In a need of a major overhaul.

KOA Orlando/Kissimmee, we were just there again a few weeks ago. This place is kept up nicely. Run like KOA means them to be, as I think it is corporate owned. Call and ask them if there is anything you could do about having 7. Tell them that you just can't see leaving one of the kids at home as you promised them all a vacation. Bet they will work something out or suggest someplace.

Nice campground, last visit we stayed on one of the deluxe sites, swing and fire pot, nice patio table and chairs. Do upgrade from the basic sites, our very first stay there we stayed on the basic site, nothing wrong with it except begger lice, the little green sticky things that always get on you. They had plenty on the basic sites. We found none on the deluxe site. We did take the dogs. Nice playground for the little ones. Fenced dog run area. Walking distance to a Super Target and several other businesses.

With KOA's it seems that each is run as the owner wants to run it. Some are really nice and some are really run down. I guess that is just the way it is.

Have a safe trip! Welcome to Florida!

parking is now $11 per day--if you cn't find a park w/shuttle that could be the difference between a ocal park and FW --Fw includes 2 adults and up to 8 kids in their base rate

We stayed at KOA Orlando/Kissimmee and had a 100 ft plus through that was concrete with firepot furniture and picinic table. Very upscale compared to Disney Ft Wilderness and about the same price with our FL Resident Rate at Ft Wilderness.

If doing Disney however stay at Disney. We do and have over 26 times in the last few years. Next time is 5 nights in May and get a golf cart. There is nothing like it.

We just returned from KOA Kissimmee and loved it. I would not recommend the super sites unless you plan to spend many hours at the CG. We did the parks and did not spend much time around the CG so the super sites were not worth the money this time. The CG is run top notch, and very friendly folks. I would just go for padded lot next time. Close enough to shopping, eating, and parks for me.

Encore Lake Magic isn't far from Main Gate, but with the price of food and 11 a day parking think FW is the way to go. You would save a lot of money eating in the rig and when you stay onsite you can get in early.

However, if you don't already have reservations at Ft. Wilderness, you may be out of luck there too. A lot of folks rave about Turkey Lake Park. Only $18 per night.
