I just guess I don't understand the real difference between the equalizer hitch that I have and the Equal-i-zer hitch.
Can someone help me out? I did a little research and from what I gather they are similar?
Thanks

Another question. Once it is all setup, is there any difference in the time and effort it takes to hook up compared to the normal WDH (i.e. EAZ-Lift).
FYI - RVW wants $400 and my dealer wants $750. If my dealer doesn't come down....RVW it is.

You are "probably" using equalizer as a generic term, whereas Equal-i-zer is a brand.
Go to the Equal-i-zer Website.
If you have one like that, you have THE brand, if not, you have an equalizer hitch, just not the Equal-i-zer brand.

According to your signature, you have a regular Eaz-lift WD hitch. It uses WD spring bars that are adjusted by varying the number of chain links to lift the bars up. There is no sway control provided by using this hitch other than the transfer of weight to the front of the truck, and if you want sway control, you need to add one or more friction sway controls on one or both sides of the trailer A frame.
The Equal-i-zer also uses WD spring bars but does not use chains. It has brackets that fit on the trailer A frame with an L shape that the spring bars rest on. This not only lifts up the bars to apply tension but also provides some friction points to help control sway.
The sockets that the spring bars fit into on the Equal-i-zer also have a great deal of friction between them and the hitch head. This provides another place for sway control and thus they advertise a "4 point sway control" hitch. This does not happen with a standard WD or equalizer hitch such as you have.
There are other differences between the two but these are the main ones. To sum up, the Draw-tite, Eaz-lift, or other standard WD hitch does not provide sway control built into the hitch and the Equal-i-zer does.
Hope this helps.

My dealer wanted to charge me over $800 installed. He came down to $650, but I could not justify that price. I tried ordering from RVW but when I got to the check-out it would not allow sales/delivery to Canada.

Give them a call. Many on here have had our equalizer setups and brake controllers ordered from, and shipped to Canada. Try calling in the order.
