I checked with a Dodge dealer up here in Alaska and they informed me that they do not sell or install compression brakes for my rig, they only go back to 05 and to 08.
anyway my question is have any of you on here had a compression brake installed by a Cummins dealer which is what I have been told I need to do.
and if so what was the out the door cost (installed and ready to go)
I will need it since I will be moving from Alaska to the Mid west this summer and towing my rather large 3612DS Key performance Raptor.
traveling some of the Alaska hiway, then south to Wa state, from there on to the mid west...
Long trip and I dont need to burn out my brakes enroute..

I am not sure about a compression or engine brake, but I have a Pacbrake exhaust brake on my 03. It works awesome, greatly reducing the use of my service brakes. www.pacbrake.com I have the PXRB on mine. Dodge sells a Jacobs exhaust brake for our trucks but it is vacuum operated and requires a vacuum pump added to the motor with a longer accessory belt. The Pacbrake is air pressure operated and has a more reliable air compressor to run it.

I see you own a Raptor and live in a cold area! and I have a question,I just purchased an 07 and wondered about how well they are insulated? Do you find it hard to heat and keep warm?

My '03 2500 Dodge/Cummins has a Jacobs exhaust brake that my Dodge Business Link dealer installed when the truck was new. They have lots of commercial customes that use the exhaust brake and have experienced diesel mechanics. I would look at the Pacbrake PRXB which has more braking at a lower rpm (1500-1800) due to their new design. They all have about the same braking HP at max rpms. A advantage of the Pacbrake is it uses a air pump. The Pacbrake operates from air pressure and that may come in handy for other uses. The Jacobs on my '03 has a vaccum pump that operates the brake. The vaccum pump is added and takes a much longer serpentine belt (80 bucks). The truck has over 90k and zero problems with the Jacobs and is covered by a Dodge warranty. Dodge doesn't warranty the Pacbrake for use on the drivetrain or the Cummins. If your out of warranty look at the Pacbrake for a much simpler setup. Either way get a exhaust brake installed and you will wonder why you didn't have it installed sooner.
Never heard of a compression brake for our Dodge/Cummins.

The dealer dosen't have a jacobs listing for your truck because it must be an automatic (this dawned on me as I drove to the gym this am). If so you will need a electronic box to lock the transmission while the brake is on. If you order a pacbrake for an auto it will come with a transmission controller.
I have the PXRB....never again will I tow without one!!!

Something I forgot to mention, my truck is equipped with the 6 speed standard trans.
as I have been searching on the net, everything I have seen thus far is for automatic transmissions, am I missing something here?

I second the Pacbrake PXRB. I comes with a controller that will control the lock-up on the 48RE transmission. Works well.

I ran a BD exhaust brake on a CTD for 14 years. No problems and no maintenance. Worth a look.
