We are a HUGE fishing family. My Daddy took me when I was a little girl, and I have fished all of my life (as has DH). My boys love to fish too...we are so itching to get out (lakes are frozen here, and I never liked ice fishing). I have first day of trout circled on the calendar (we will be boondocking at a friends that weekend. They have a private stocked pond for the children to fish for derby trophies and prizes, and a nice publicly stocked stream. Last year, my then 7 year old hooked an 18 inch rainbow in the creek by casting into a small waterfall. He is excited to go too...he brought up his tackle box, and put it by the front door so we dont forget it (bear in mind, we have about 6 weeks to go). All three of my guys have been fly fishing since they were about 6, and my dad bought the little guys "big boy" fly rods last year about a month before he died.
My little ones are 8 and 9, and my oldest is 19. He and his girlfriend love to fish too. We live in PA, but camp in NY often, so we usually get a non resident annual license there too.

I grew up in PA and caught my first trout in a small creek on openning day. The fishing bug hit me at that point. When i got drafted the military moved me all over the world and never got a chance to fish until i got to Texas. We now go to the coast fishing every chance we get. Usually bring home a 60 qt ice chest full of sand trout, speckeled trout, and perch.

Lake Perch and Walleye with a few Crappie thrown in for good measure. Then there's the smelt season up north. Can't beat them all for frying in an old cast iron skillet. We have not only the Great Lakes but a whole lot of in land lakes.

I love to fish. I purchased a bass boat 9 years ago and now we hook it up to the MH and get the best of both worlds. Life is to short not to do the things you love when you can. I live in PA also and just wonder why there are so many lakes that will not let you use a motor over 9 or 20 HP. Other states like CT have many more lakes that you can use unlimited horsepower motors. They may resrict your speed but a least you can use your boat motor to fish the lake. They really need to open up some of the water ways for the outdoorsman. I travel to CT and fish there. I can go to 10 lakes in a 40 mile area and use my boat. In PA many of the lakes are electric only and they are 2 times the size of the lakes I go to in CT. I have even talked to the fish and game rangers at some of the RV shows and they really understand and see the difference PA restrictions over other states.

beaglebiz,
I'm with you can't wait for the weather to warm up and trout season to open. Fished Tionesta and Kinzua as a child along with Beaver Brook in Western PA when spending summers with my grandparents. Fishing is a great way to spend good quality time with the family.

Husband taught me to fish about 15 years ago. For the last 8 years we have spent early June fishing for 2 weeks in No. Wisconsin. Perch, Crappie lately Bass. Only baby Walleye. For his 40th birthday I hired a guide to take him Muskie fishing one evening but no luck. He still enjoyed spending time with the guide and his fancy boat.
My son (now 7) has been fishing since before he turned 2 (he killed the perch the first time fishing. Just dropped the lure in the water and a little jiggle and pulled em out one after the other. He was "hooked on fishing" from that moment on.)

I'm ready, but like you I don't really like ice fishing.
Lord, grant me the senility to not recognize the people I don't like, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference

I think I would like fishing if I knew how. My brother lives in the OBX and he's BIG fisherman. He took me once when we were teenagers--I caught more fish than he did and that was the last time he invited me, haha. Seriously, I can't figure out how to get the fish off the hook. Well, that and I'm squeamish about cutting the heads off and cleaning the guts out. But I think if I had the opportunity to bank fish I'd like it(I get seasick, so there will be no deep sea fishing or any other kind of sea fishing for me). Must make a note for hubby: take me fishing, dude.

I've been fishing since about 3 years old. My kids are both getting into it as well! The DW doesn't mind going, but won't touch nothing but the rod and reel! When my DD turned 4, I bought her a Disney Princess fishing kit. To get her 'hooked' I brought her to a catch and release pay lake. She caught (with daddy's help) a 6 1/2# largemouth. After I got it off the hook she pet it and said 'Have a nice day fishy' and we then released it. This season I'm going to get my DS (3) his own fishing kit and see how it goes with him. When ever we stay at a Private CG, I like to make sure it has a fishing pond. I find fishing with kids in a stocked lake is the best way to get them into it. It allows them to catch and not get skunked. It's hard to teach a 3 year old that a bad day fishing is still better than a good day at work. Growing up within walking distance to Lake Erie is something I will always be grateful of.
Why am I always putting my 2 cents in when it's only a penny for your thoughts?

I LOVE fresh water fishing....hate saltwater...the fish are bigger than me...lol
I started fishing when I was younger with my uncle at a lake called Hidden Lake near Marshalls Creek, PA.
Does anyone know how much it is for an out of state license with a trout stamp in PA this year? I'd like to get one for me and the fiance.
