We have a 2008 Newmar with the in motion satelite option but have never used it. We would now like the Direct TV service, but am wondering how to go about it. Who actually sets it up and makes it work, the dealer or Direct TV?

I took my Direct TV receiver from home to the dealer when I picked up my MH. Had one of the service guys hook it up for me. Depends on how your MH is wired.. if you have HDMI cables already run, then you just plug in the one wire. Otherwise you have about 4 or 5. No extra charge with DTV from home to MH, so you might as well get your programming set up for the house and then just move it to the MH when you travel... Also you need to set your satellite to 101, 110, or 119.. good luck

Depending on the brand of In Motion Sat, it might already be set for DirecTV. Our Winegard Dome was. If not, check the Mfger's Manual for instructions, it's usually only a matter of flipping a few switches to DTV.

if you have a receiver, check to see if it has a card in the slot. Might be behind a little door. If you do have the receiver and card in the motorhome, all you have to do is call DirecTV or go online and request service. They can activate the card on the phone. If you don't have a receiver and/or card, they can mail you either or both. One word of advice: if you leave the motorhome in storage for more than 30 days and the receiver is not on, the card will deactivate. All you have to do then is go online or call and they will reset it. Takes about 3 mins. good luck!

Some boxes do not fit in the cabinet you want the stuff in. Check the sizes first.

thebrushman, I'm in the same boat as you, I've had the Motorhome for 11 months and just now getting around to activating the DirectTV. I found that the front unit was dead. So, my dealer is getting Monaco to see about replacing it.

I've always had good reception from the TV or from cable and never rushed to get DirectTV. I figured I better get it since I have a $2,000 system sitting on the roof that I paid for. Soon as they get me a new receiver unit, I'll get the service.

We have Direct TV and it works fine. One issue is the availability of different channels on the different satellite. When we are in Maryland we receive the entire package, including the local channels on our roof dish - everything is broadcast on 110. We are now in Pensacola Florida and after trying to get the local channels here I called Direct TV and they hooked me up. However, the local channels are broadcast on 119. I picked up a 3 LNB dish for $10.00 and just hooked it up to the satellite input back in the power compartment. Everything goes through the distribution box over the drivers seat so all I had to do was move one coax. Nice thing about the 3 LNB dish is it has 4 outputs so we can run more than one receiver at the same time. It also comes in handy if we are parked under heavy trees and can't get the roof top dish locked in.

Newmar does not supply the Direct receiver. You must contac Direct TV and set up service and get the receiver first and then install in the motorhome, then have the dealer install the receiver and get the Dome system (Newmar uses both Kingdome and KVH) to lock into the Sat. Once you are locked onto the Sat, you call Direct and have them authorize the receiver. Remember, IF Direct insists on installing the system in your motorhome, you will find out that the Direct Installers have no clue as how to connect and operate an RV Dome system. Doug
