We had this experience once, and only once. We went to Atlanta State Park in TExas in December one year. Most of the park was shut down, but they had one loop open. We were at one end and one other camper was at the other. It was indeed quiet! We loved it. That was about 10 years ago though.
Wish it would happen again though.

Just read your post of your ride in the C17 to Germany and of "the Heroes touching a piece of cloth...."
Hope you copy these posts and make a scrapbook, to share these memories with your family, while sitting outside that Dream RV and the camp fire. Take care, and stay in touch with all of us. Can't wait to see what kind of Rv you will buy once you get home. Sharon from Canada

I made it back to my home away from home (Germany) last Saturday. It was quite a trip, not for sure if the Blackhawk ride to Balad or the trip down the autobahn was more exciting. But what really got me, and I know this will be something that I will never forget. Was coming back from Balad Iraq, I caught a Medi-flight to Ramstein Germany. There was an America Flag hanging in the back of the C17. After we landed, each soldier that was on a stretcher had the soldiers that were carrying them pause as they were being carried out, so that they could reach up and touch the flag. I couldn’t move, tears streaming down my face. And now when ever I see Old Glory flying, I remember that moment. What bravery, courage, and sacrifice, all captured in a memory that I have, of heroes touching a piece of cloth…..
So glad you're back in Germany. My brother spent some time there as well. He just retired from the Air Force 2 weeks ago. Greg started his career in Desert Storm as an A-10 pilot, was a fighter pilot for a time, and retired as a pilot instructor. He saw more than enough action for my comfort and I'm thrilled to have him back here. It's clear, though, that withdrawal is going to hit him hard.
Please keep us posted and continue to accept my best wishes and those of my family.
Refloyd,
Thank you for the awsome pics you sent, brought back memories. Was a door gunner my second tour in Vietnam.
Thank you and your family for your service and come home safely.

The choices of campsites were difficult. Only one other trailer in the loop. So we picked the one overlooking the lake. Daytime temp in the high 60's to low 70's. Nightime temp in the mid to high 30's. Not a cloud in the sky. The person in the only other trailer in the loop must have had to go to work as he was gone from about 9am to after dark. Basically we had the whole place to ourselves.
Well, here is a report from the east coast. DW and I went south to central Massachusetts for the week. Great campground nearly vacant. We were only ones in our loop. Site on the lake. The foliage was wonderful. Leaves were in full autumn foliage bloom. Fished the lake. And even caught fish.
During the week a family moved into the site next door. From Oregon, he was working in the area thru the week, while she home schooled the three kids.
DW and I toured Old Sturbridge Village for two days. An authentic 1800's community. Then toured and the nearby trappist monastery. Wonderful places in their own right. But the blazed of full autumn foliage made it extra special. And the 70 to 80 degree clear days, made it that much better.
So as great as California is, it ain't so bad here either. One difference is, this is our last trip of the year for 08. Winterized yesterday. You can go thru the winter.
But in Jan 09, we will leave NH and head south, and then eventually west for San Antonio, San Diego, Pismo, and points north on PCH. We want to see what we're missing on the left coast. DW has never been off the east coast. We'll be turning back east in April for AZ, Utah, Grand Canyon, Branson, Nashville, Charleston, SC., Savannah, GA., Raleigh, NC., Williamsburg, VA. Then back to NH for the summer. Gas is $3.059 here now. We'll be buying a lot of it.

I have a grandson in the Army who served in Afganistan for 15 months, home based now, and have a grandaughter who just finished Air Force boot camp. So I have a personal reason to thank everyone who serves in the Armed Forces, no matter what the branch!
refloyd, keep safe and thank you and your family for all of your service.

When you go up the coast from Pismo Beach and if you decide to stop in Morro Bay/Cayucos/Cambria area, give me a PM and I'll buy you a cup of your favorite refreshment.

refloyd,
Like many I want to say thank you for your service to our great
nation. I had the pleasure to serve for almost 21yrs, during the
1st Gulf War, Panama and Grenada. It is because of the men and women
of our armed forces that we continue to enjoy our freedoms.
Let us all know when you return to stateside, bring you new 5er
to the great state of GA and park next to me and we can swap stories
and honor our fallen comrades with a toast.
Stay safe and we will keep the light on for you.
