Folks,

I did not want to get in the habit of spraying goop on my tires but two of my tires that get the most sun show some sign of slight cracks, very slight.

If I do spray them down with tire goop to make them last longer what do i use?

No sprays or other chemicals. I recently purchased covers for my tires to keep the sun's harmful rays off.

I was kicking myself for not doing that...but on the other hand I thought a bottle of spray might be cheaper than buying the covers and hauling those around.

Don't damage your tires by spraying stuff on them. If sun is damaging them cover them. The BEST way to protect your tires is to keep them rolling so the emollients stay at the tires surface.

Agreed, wish I could travel year round but from November to March it sits. O.K., no goop, and I will look at soft covers.

I do not put chemicals on my TT tires. I read on a tire web site somewhere where it says that it actually can dry out the natural oils in the tires and can cause premature failure. So I dont.

I wash with a good brand of tire cleaner/UV protectant. I was told by the tire dealer that road grime (road salts, motor oils, asphaltines, etc.) help to degrade the tires. Washing them periodically to get road grime off them will add to their life. Wheel covers over clean tires if they are in the sun for a prolonged time is good. Tires look like new. I don't use any oil based solvents or tire gloss to make them look shiny on the tires.

I have sprayed mine a couple times in 2 years with a tire UV protector.. I dont know if it works..

I know there are 2 camps on this.. but everyone agrees to cover them.

I have a buddy that swears Armoral several times a year is good. who am I to disagree its worked for him for like 7 years on the same set of marathons.

I tell him those tires are junk after 7 years.. he just shrugs.

Mecreature, you're right about the 7 year old tires. IMHO, you should junk your tires after 6-7 years. Tires are the only thing between your family and the pavement.
