I think Id be taking lowes to small claims court. Have them try to explain that how can you put 261 gl. of diesel fuel into a 90 gal. tank. Dont make sense to me. Maybe Im missing something. Their must be somekind of consumer protection. I know after reading this story I wont stop their. Good Luck Chuck

I'm another one that will no longer stop at a Love's to buy gas.
Twice I have stopped at Love's and they have to have the dirtiest stations and rudest employees anywhere.
As for comparing Flying J to Love's there is no comparison many times I stop at Flying J's and will continue to do so.

Why is that "misguided"?
I don't have to unhook...never! I am 36' and towing a toad...and I can fit in most gas stations. I sure don't have time to wait behind the line of RVers in the "RV LINE" at Flying J....
Maybe you like waiting behind all the truckers.....maybe you go to truck stops on purpose to save "1 cent" per gallon!
Enjoy your truck stop stay!! LOL
Mom and Pop gas stations are for just that...Mom and Pop. I use the truck islands and always will. Straight IN..straight OUT...ceiling height about 10 feet higher than my coach is...PLUS the fact that when I go and park..if we decided we want a meal we can go inside and oder one and sit down to eat it....along with the fact that inside the truck store I can buy products I might need for my rig.
Ever tried to find Howe's Lubricator at some mom and pop place?

I use American Express and anytime I have a dispute, even with paypal which seems to be hard to dispute, my cc company always refunds or credits my card with not so many questions. sorry to hear about the charge you received.

Yes you are missing something, and so did the OP. Here is what was missing
The user who last used the pump put like 200 gallons in his Semi, he then did not hang up the pump properly, the OP pulled in, failed to verify the pump had reset and put 61 gallons (NOTE: I'm not accurate on the gallons) into his rig. swiped his card, more than likely at the pump, and got hammered. How this was allowed to happen, I do not know
But that is my guess as to how it happened.
Option 2 is a computer glitched and did... much the same thing. Lowes truly believes he took 261 gallons, even if he did not.

Well, there are a couple of explanations that are NOT lowes fault.
Since the OP used the truck island, I'm going to cheat a bit and say the OP took 61 gallons (I know, it was not that much) and someone else took 200.
Either the truck ahead of him did not hang up the nozzle properly and cause the pump to terminate his sale, so when the OP swiped his card it rang up his 200 gallons, plus the OP's 61, or....
The OP did not hand up and await a reciept for his fuel and the truck behind him filled up for free.
-OR-, and this is a big -or- as it's way down the list, the computer in the pump (or rather the station) glitched and combined two sales
However, i suspect the 200 plus extra gallons were, indeed, pumped into SOMEBODY's truck, Just not the OP's
On edit: I have never seen this happen at a self serve station, Though I've gotten a lot of phone calls about stations making a few dollars in errors.
I do, however, understand how it could possibly happen.
But I have heard of it at full service stations
I have also heard of stations double billing, usually this is a computer glitch. and usually the station is all over the customer with apologies when it's discovered. crediting the account and sometimes even giving a gift card as a way of apology (There is a legal requirement in SOME states)

Never had a problem with LOVES. I am 13' tall 68' long pulling my trailer. If its a penny cheaper and I can squeeze in I am there, corner gas station or truck stop who cares. I also get 5% off on ALL fuel purchases so my only pre rec is they take American Express.
Sometimes I get comments because I also drop the door on the trailer and add about 50 gal of gas to off road vehicles. When that happens I am spread out about 75'.
Nothing to do with gas but anytime I have had a problem with a purchase on a card I tell the CC company they reverse it or cancel my account.

All you guys speak of Love's, Flying J, etc... I try and stop at the T/A truck stops first, then maybe a Flying J. I too avoid the Love's stations because they are SO dirty!
The T/A trucks stops don't take the CC payment at the pump. You have to go inside and show an ID along with the CC (fine with me). Seems like that would eliminate any confusion and double or accidental billing.
If my CC company did not take care of the charges, I would be madder-than-a-hornet-sprayed-with-insecticide! Somebody would lose their job over this!
To the OP, I really don't understand the reluctance of the Love's station not reimbursing the over-charge and then the CC company not backing you up. I hope that you can get it worked out.

I would just ask loves were they feel you put the extra? Believe you can show them that you could not have put it into your unit and I also would have changed cc . This is one of the reasions I do use Discover they have always stood behind me and worked with me.
