My Maxlite has a similar set-up - smaller door - and a split mattress. I have slept on the mattress and did not notice the split at all.

We have the maxi-store door on our Jay Feather 213 EXP; it's a little smaller version that the one on the 29 BHS. In oder to know if one of the kids has opened the door at night, why not go to Radio Shack and purchase an inexpensive battery powered alarm that sounds if the door opens? It mounts, by sticky tape or screws, to the door itself, or sidewall, and has a small metallic strip that contacts when the door is closed. When the door opens, it beeps. It's pretty loud, too. I had one on our pup up, but haven't installed on the 213. Just an idea.

I never liked the maxi-stor door...until i got one. like many other things, im not real sure how i coped without it in the past. the storage benefit is huge-being able to secure bikes, coolers, and whatever else shows up at the last minute is a godsend. I like to think that it doubles as a fire escape for the kids-but im not real sure how practical that is due to the handle lock. security was also a concern of mine, but i make sure the door stays locked, and DS recieved an understanding of why it must stay that way. the deadbolt can be unlocked from the inside, but i dont think the handle lock can. i guess its 50/50 deciding whether or not to engage it.

I like the idea of an extra means of egress but I'm worried my 2 and or 4 yr old could open it while in bed. Does it lock from the inside? Also I notice it looks like the matress on the lower bunk has a 60/40 split in it with the Maxistor, does this make it uncomfortable? Can you access under the bunk from inside the trailer? Also was wondering if you could get a draft from the door right next to the bed?

I felt exact same way. We were also concerned about our two young boys getting out, or god forbid someone coming in.

Did you get yours with the Maxistor? What dealer did you end up purchasing from. I am from Mass also and have Checked out Rv direct. Albany is not too far away but I would'nt mind trying some local dealerships also.

Our kids are older but we love the door. You can only access underneath by using the outside door. But it is truly great and flexible storage. The lower bunk is very comfortable. I actually like it better than the queen bed the dh and I sleep on!
Best of luck in whatever you decide.

I have heard that if you aren't too concerned about using this door as an emergency exit but just for storage access, you can remove the deadbolt toggle (the red lever)on the inside. You can then lock it with the key from outside and then the kids can't open it from inside. There is an emergency exit in the top bunk window. When the kids get older and you can trust they won't go out you can put the toggle back on.
Thats one way to keep the kids in and have the nicer sized storage door. The door can be adjusted to seal better just as your main entry door. There is no more draft than a window.

We have an 07 29bhs and I WISH we had the door. My tongue weight is a tad heavy and it would be nice to place additional things in the rear. The small storage compartment door is VERY tiny.

We got our 29BHS last spring from a local dealer who....at the time didn't have our 1st choice of interior color scheme on the lot. He said "No Problem. I'll trade with another dealer for the one you want." The first one didn't have the Maxistore and I had never seen one so I didn't think much about it. Anyway...one the "trade" arrived it had the door and I'll tell you...It's one of my most favorite features of the TT. I do the packing and organizing and the Maxistore makes it so easy. We keep it locked using the key from the outside and feel that the kids are safe. I say...go for it!

As huffster said, if you're worried about the kids getting out, just keep the handle locked from the outside. You can't open it from the inside then. If you're not worried about the kids hopping out in the middle of the night then leave the handle unlocked and lock the deadbolt from the inside. This way it can still be used as a means of egress.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.
