Hello,
My wife an really like the 29bhs from Jayco. We were wondering about the pros and cons of the Maxistor door. Is it a must have or are there some disadvantages? Thanks

I had it on my 29BHS, good storage compartment plus an extra door to get out of.

We ordered it for our Jayco 29FBS. I really like it. It is an easy place to load larger items like storage bins, etc. Plus, I like the idea of a large "emergency" exit if needed.

I have an 07 Jayco 29BHS but without the Maxistor door. I can tell you I kind of wished I had one. The smaller hatch door is really small IMO and even getting my tackle box out is difficult. I'd opt for the larger door.

A door like that was something that I initially thought was a necessity for us, but the floorplan of our Hornet doesn't accomodate one. We have been fine without it, but I do like the idea of it being used as an emergency exit.

I like the idea of an extra means of egress but I'm worried my 2 and or 4 yr old could open it while in bed. Does it lock from the inside? Also I notice it looks like the matress on the lower bunk has a 60/40 split in it with the Maxistor, does this make it uncomfortable? Can you access under the bunk from inside the trailer? Also was wondering if you could get a draft from the door right next to the bed?

It should lock from inside or outside. The handle is exactly the same as what is on the main trailer door.

The door has the same lock/deadbolt as the main entry door. So, yes children could get out. Which is one of my concerns as well as I have a 4 year old that sleeps in that bunk.
We camped last weekend and it was windy and in the 40's, I didn't notice a draft. Also, while I have been on the bunk and layed down, I haven't slept in the bunk. But, I didn't notice the split mattress. But sleeping on it might prove different. Doesn't bother my 4 year old though.
Also, in the 29FBS, there is a small door to access the storage area but it isn't very helpful due to the size. You really have to go outside if to access anything large or more than 2-3' from the inside aceess.

I felt exact same way. We were also concerned about our two young boys getting out, or god forbid someone coming in.

We were worried about the same thing. Mine are a little older and would get out for different reasons so that helped our decision(the other was about 3,000 dollars for a few extras)to get the 28bhs instead. We couldn't see paying the big price differnce for a bigger air condition(I didn't run our last one a whole lot cause we don't hang out in tt and I am cold nature),tv (that we bought for under 300 and the mount for 30) a ladder, and after some good advice from here didn't need the enclosed underbelly. We will be picking our 28bhs this weekend(a week earlier than original date). I can't wait.
