I have this now installed & ready to go. So I had it scan my computer, and it came up with twelve (12) red 'bad guys'. Or are they 'bad guys'? I don't have a clue what any of them are! So I'm about to send the report that I got (capture the screen on Irfanview if I can pull it off) to a friend who really knows computers. But I can't do this everytime. What do you do with your reports? I've still got to learn how to get rid of the real bad ones also. Thanks.

I have been using Spybot for years. Just click on Search and Destroy, let it scan and when the red 'bad guys' come up just click on 'fix selected problems' and then close spy bot. I usually run it once a day and come up with 8 to 12 bad guys as you call them. These are spyware cookies or programs installed on your computer just through normal internet browsing. Get rid of them.

I too have used it for several years, along with Ad-Aware (free version) by Lavasoft. Both are nice utilities. I trust them to seek out and remove nuisance malware.

Rarely use them, and never have needed them. But some people swear by them. Most of what they catch if you're a prudent surfer are tracking (not spyware) cookies. Not a threat.

I am pretty sure I used to have Spybot Search and Destroy on my laptop, but it is now gone. I have spent the last half hour using Google and going down blind alleys to find the free Spybot download.

Would someone post a direct link to a safe site where I can get the download?

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks fj12ryder,

I now have Spybot back on my desktop and I have run a scan. This evening I had actually been to the website you referenced but only after following several links that started asking for credit card information so I gave up on finding the correct link on my own and posted my question here. I knew you guys would come through.

Thanks again,

Mike

Yeah, you really have to be careful as some shady sites will do everything they can to get you to think they have what you want.

Be sure to use the Immunize function. Since I started using that portion as well I get about one bad guy every six months. It is better to keep them out than to catch them after they have gotten inside!
