Got a Workhorse chassis (’03 32W Bounder) and the LCD dashboard display has deteriorated over the past year so it is almost unreadable. Hearing from anyone who has dealt with this problem would be appreciated.

Thanks

I believe that Workhorse will replace it under warranty. You can find a lot of discussion about this problem in the Workhorse Chassis owner's forum on irv2.com.

As HWY said... There was a non-urgent "Recall" on the dash on some Workhorse models. Non-urgent means they wait for you to see if you have an issue and then they replace it under warranty. Contact Workhorse at the 1-800 number in your manual and they will refer you to a dealer

I got lucky... When mine went out I was on my way to the Damon warranty factory for other reasons... They took care of it at the same time, Very nice

Go to your closest Workhorse Service Center. They will remove your Actia panel. Make sure YOU jot down the mileage also. They have to load the correct mileage in the panel before installing the new one. Mine was 150 or so miles too much when I picked it up. It takes a week or two to accomplish.

Why do I get this mental picture of the rear of the rig jacked up, with a brick on the gas pedal?

That sounds like something I would say.. That's not how they do it, I do not know if they "Read" the millage or if it is stored in the On Board Computer and just displayed on the dash.. Mine was right one when replaced.

Of course, the factory did the replacement. They know how to do it.

Thanks Chris, I needed that. They read the mileage off the display and enter it in the new display. I think they read mine on a Tuesday after a long weekend. Workhorse said they would fix it by doing another panel but I chose to have them acknowledge the mileage difference. (I had records of a fill up 4 miles away from the Cal Cummings shop).

Thanks for the help. I got a quick response from Workhorse in reply to my email. They referred me to the instrument cluster manufacture - Actia. Actia gave me several options - most of them spendy because the instrument cluster is out of warranty. But with a wink and a node the unit will be fixed at a reasonable cost.

Lynn S.

Could you share the Actia phone number & give some idea of your out-of pocket cost? My display is 80% gone and one Workhorse center said it was several hundred for parts alone & 1/2 day of labor, week wait for the new display to arrive. What a nightmare to deal with if I have to leave the coach at a WH center for the wait. I am a 2nd owner of 2004 Allegro Bay; no warranty recourse possible for me.

Would welcome any input from someone who has already resolved this issue.

I work for an authorized Workhorse dealer in so Cal... yes the cluster can be a bit pricey ($300-$400 if you have to pay for it), but it should not take more than 1 hour labor to remove and replace the cluster. and when we send it to Actia, we do 2 day shipping and have the customer done in 4 days usually. also, if you have an extended warranty with hi-tech coverage, then the cluster is usually covered by your warranty.

but first, contact Workhorse, never hurts to try the manufacturer first.
