When we arrive at camp, we make it a point to introduce ourselves to the neighbors on each side of us. We explain to them that there is the possibility that we may need to run our Yamaha after hours to power emergency medical equippment for our daughter. We also purchase two campsites to give us a little more buffer between us and the neighbors.
We ask our neighbors to please let us know if our genny ever disturbs them and in the past 5 years of using the Yamahas, not one person has complained. In fact, many have offered help should an emergency arrise.
Although I usually like the saying that "its beeter to ask forgiveness than permission", in the case of a genny, I always ask first.
I truely commend you for this. If you came over to me and explained this, not only would I understand, I'd asked what I could do to make your stay more enjoyable. We need more people like you. I hope the best for your family and daughter.

Most of our camping is done without hookups. I have 2 of the 2000 watt Honda generators. 95% of the time I run just one of them. Like others, if we are camped by others, we run ours in our site in order to cut down on the noise. My morning coffee is cooked on my propane stove. The genset runs for about 2 hours in the afternoon to keep batteries charged, and to run the M/W. I do not run it after supper. I agree that the Honda is quiet, just not as quiet as the great outdoors. A little consideration goes a long way. Best of luck.

It is NEVER OK to run a generator. I would excuse javaseuf from that statement since life and death medical equipment is involved.
We dry camp and we also camp and plug in. When we dry camp we do not let lights on, we do not use patio lights etc, we watch our electric use.
I go camping and want to hear birds, the fire crackle and wild life not motors running. I could camp in my driveway and listen to road traffic if I wanted that kind of noise.
Again it is NEVER OK TO USE A GENERATOR

I read this thread and I'm amazed by the people here. If anyone wants to run their generators next to me during daytime (not quiet time) go ahead and do it. I plan on having fun and being rambunctious. I may laugh and yell occasionally so I say have a good time...party ....yell etc. At 9:00PM (quiet time) shut it down and lets have peace and quiet. Every body come over in the morn as the coffee will be ready and all are welcome... even the nut cases thaT have spent the evening plotting the demise of everyone's generator. Grow up people and live and let live.

Is it OK if we talk? OR DO WE HAVE TO WHISPER AROUND YOU?
I for one, don't enjoy the smell of your fire blowing across my formerly clean air.
But I believe in minding my own business as long as CG rules on fires, gens, whatever are being followed.

I hope that was a tongue-in-cheek post. I hope I do not ever run into RVer's that selfish.
If they want that kind of quiet they had best stick to boondocking way out away from everyone else, preferably on their own private land.
