If we needed to drop the coach before leveling, then we have to idle it a couple of minutes to build the air pressure back up. It takes 1-2 minutes to build up air pressure and we're in gear and rolling.

Since we've got so many opinions here, how about asking for one more? When building pressure, many people have the option of kicking the engine into a fast idle to make it pump air faster. But that makes more noise. So what's worse: less noise for a longer time, or more noise for a shorter time?

When pulling in, I leave the engine running long enough to back into the site, and do a real quick walk around to make sure I'm in the right place and can reach utilities and I'm clear of obstructions for the slides. Then the engine is off while all of the other setup operations happen.

When leaving, I have to start the engine and pump up the air suspension (hence my initial question) and then I shut it off while I pull in slides and finish tearing down. (My manufacturer says to only move the slides when on full air suspension with the leveling jacks up.) Then, when all set to go, I start up again, and pull out after only a few seconds.

That's about the minimum I can do. If that's not good enough for you, then I have the feeling that nothing is going to be good enough for you.

And THAT is the actual "problem"...NOT with the "supposid" 45 minutes of diesel ideling

BTW..? Where are all the people that have to run their diesel engines to pump up their tires?? Idling is idling..dont matter WHY its idling

First I will preface my comment with the fact that I DO NOT own a diesel.

There are considerably more noises and obnoxious smells in campgrounds that bother me more than an idling diesel.

When they occur, I simply do what needs to be done, as Sully says "If someone pulled in within 15 feet of me with a diesel...I'd have gotten up off my lazy butt and ..1) CLOSED THE WINDOW and ..2) Turned the volume up a tad on the TV so I wouldn't hear it!"

Simple enough.

Definitely easier than dealing with a campsite filled with drunks and poorly built campfires.

Why is it that some think that the sound of their diesel is so cool, that they pull into a CG way after dark and then let it run for close to 45 minutes, while they set up their site, then get up just after dawn and crank it back up and let it run for 30 minutes while the pick up and get ready to move on. None of them can say it was to cool it down, as they just drove 8 miles through town at 25 MPH, so it wasn't even close to needing a cool down. Spent all winter here and this happens about once a week, mainly during late evening, but last night at 9pm was the worst. Those that think others like to know you have a diesel, wake up, it is hurting your engine to idle like that and it is annoying to your fellow campers.

The diesel engine is music to my ears, I'm serious, I can sleep with one running next door but I don't let mine run and I don't get in late at night nor do I leave that early. There are other things and noises that bother me more in an RV park. Like screaming kids, motorcycles and loud music at any time.

You know, I have heard this complaint before and after almost a year of pretty steady camping in different campgrounds, I don't think it is a problem for me--I guess I have either been lucky or just don't notice.
I would agree that diesel pickups and fifth wheels are a bit louder--probably because it does take them longer to get backed into a site but it is not disturbing to the point of anger. Besides there is entertainment value--just this month I watched two rear windows in pickups knocked out while the drivers jockeyed in tight campgrounds.
I'm not sure that most campgrounds are good places for folks that are prickly about other people. What counts for me is how quiet a campground is at bedtime and I have pleasantly found all the places I have stayed very, very quiet after about nine. That is my gold standard for personal comfort.

ROFL... we could make a new flick out of it, Grumpy Old Men - The Campground Edition.

I can attest that my DP is quieter than some kids' lousy cheap chinese made plastic "big wheel".
