do the gas pumps max out at $75.00 for credit/debit card purchases?

They do where I typically fill up...and this is at the Port of Long Beach/LA, where the large big rig trucks also fill up...makes no sense.

We recently hit a station up off the I-5 that shut off at $50.

We have a trip planned for Bryce and Grand Canyon this summer and are reconsidering. Looking between $600.00 and $700.00 in regular gas for this trip maybe if gas keeps going up.

Pissed off because oil companies are still making record profits. Greeeeeeeedy SOB's.

Guess I woudln't say that if I owned stock in it though.

Exxon posted $11.5 Billion (with a capital B) in profits for the quarter, roughly $45 Billion for a year.

It won't stop my trips to the desert but has been felt in the wallet. I've found a few stations still capped at $50 (what good is 12 gallons of diesel), most have gone to $100.

I am considering storing my trailer close to the destination (Glamis) for a few weeks because it's actually cost effective. About 9 mpg towing, 16 mpg without, works out to saving me about $285 in diesel over 3 back to back trips. Even if the storage is $150 for a month I'm ahead.

Don't take life too seriously, it's not permanent.

Although I just filled up my company truck at 4.059 a gallon...
and I am not going to stop camping because if the high cost of fuel, what will make a impact on people's camping plans is the fact that yes it is probable only a few hundred more dollars a year more in fuel for the typical vacation, but
everything else is more expensive too, campgrounds, food, taxes, maintenance ect...

just my 2 cents

I recently started to carpool with two other people. This saves at least two fillups per month on my car which will help subsidize the increase in fuel costs. Best way to get at the oil/gas companies is to conserve some. While carpooling doesn't work for everyone...it is a sure fire method to help sustain our lifestyle without going broke.

Another great benefit to carpooling:
Using the carpool lane cuts my LA-area commute in half, to 45 minutes each way.

Only way to get back at the oil companies would be to limit your driving. slower speeds on freeway, carpool when you can, leave early for work so you arn't sitting in traffic. and check out sites like gasbuddy.com that keep up to date of gas prices at gas stations, and use the cheaper ones.
I have been leaving my truck at home more often and driving my bmw which gets a good 30mpg highway when I'm taking it easy.
