Sure wish i was in the same boat as everyone else but i guess that's just not the case. Used our toy hauler almost every weekend last year multiple long trips (including sturgis). Just isn't going to happen this year. toy hauler is up for sale now, and i'm riding the harley to work when it's warm enough. I know I'm just an average guy (who is going to miss a lot of the pleasure) but I know I can't continue to fool myself. have to draw a line some where. good luck to those who don't, hope things keep working for you. As for me day trips are about it. Don't want to sacrifice the boat harley's or 4 wheelers.

We're not rich. We used our toyhauler for camping trips almost every weekend last year. I increased my part-time work to pay for the increased cost and we will stick closer to home and use the permanent lot more this year.
When we go to Kings Island, we may stay at a hotel (not my first choice) or do one day car trips rather than tow the fifth wheel, but we won't be staying home. We already have some trips planned beginning in 2 weeks and will budget for the increased costs for fuel. I use gasbuddy.com to find the lowest prices for fuel and then we fill up when we can. Our schedule for the next few month looks like this
March 28 - Camping - permanent site (unit already there), tow to house Sunday
April 4 - Camping - 90 miles each way
April 11 - Work on camper for summer
April 18 - Camping - 20 miles each way
April 25 - Camping - permanent site - return unit for use in May there
May - most weekend unit will stay on permanent site
June 5 - Camping - 30 miles each way - return to permanent site on Sunday?
There will be additional trips to campground 90 miles away over the summer. I'll be doing some summer school so that we can buy fuel mid-summer.

Truck (Diesel) $4.25/gal x 65
Toyhauler & bikes full (premium)$3.89/gal x 46
Toyhauler (propane) $3.59/gal x 8
Sandcar (100 octane) $6.99/gal x 15
OUCH! Do the math.
Good thing the dunes were perfect (and nearly empty) last week or I'd be really bitter.
Glamis...why go anywhere else?

How about this approach? - think about downsizing.
Instead of a $35,000 truck and a $40,000 TH, get a $30,000 truck and a $35,000 TH. The $10,000 base savings (not to mention the interest savings) will buy many many years worth of fuel. I know the thought hurts, but you can still have have fun with your family AND live within your means.

28 gallons of Diesel @ 4.12
15 gallons of gas@ 3.84
We try to go once or twice a month and its worth every damn penny. Still piss me off when oil companies are making between 10-14 million every 3 months. But what can we do but bend over and smile
The wife and I are going to Ocotillo Wells this weekend and its going to be great

It's not stopping us. Much to the fact that we quit smoking in December (finally), even with the outrageous fuel prices, we're still ahead each month.

The fuel prices are changing what we do. We might not do our yearly trip to Trinity this summer. I feel more one to one and 1/2 tank trips are in this summers cards.

Starting to seriously think about selling. Would break my heart, but...
Just trying to weigh the pros and cons about keeping/selling.
First of all, I'm out of place on this board - I own a Class C. But I'm enjoying this thread.
It's paid off, which is a huge benefit. But when I think of how often I use it, versus how much separate insurance and registration cost each year, and now with gas prices creeping forever up....I...Just...Don't...Know.
