Just make sure if you have not regularly changed your ATF and you have say 75-100,000 on it and it works perfectly,do NOT change it,any trans.shop will tell you, you will or may have trouble because all the grit and clutch residue in the fluid is helping the trans.to keep from slipping,if you are having shifting problems then go ahead,it may help it for awhile,I always put a bottle of Lucas additive in whenever I change ATF

Yes get the transmission flushed, the pan filter changed, and the magnet cleaned when the pan is off.
What I do is get a 5 gallon bucket, remove the transmission line from the cooler, and pump out the fluid. To clean it really well, add about 10 quarts of fluid while the engine is running, this will pump new fluid into the torque converter and wash it out as well.
Then when the fluid stops coming out, remove the transmission pan, clean the magnet and replace the filter. Some gaskets are re-usable, so don't damage it, or you will be stuck replacing the cork gasket that came with the filter each time.
You want to spend $50 - $75 taking good care of the transmission that can cost over $1,500 to rebuild - even more at certain shops. I do my motorhome every 15,000 miles and the car after about 30,000 miles.
