Remember the 55mph national speed limit several years ago? How about doing it again? Not only would we get better miles per gallon then at 70mph, it should also make more gas available.

I've found my Duramax gets much better mileage at 60~65 than 75. 55 might be dropping it too low. Riding down the interstate, I'm amazed at the speeds some folks travel.

I don't mind slowing down with the truck and trailer, I'm usually not in a hurry and we already travel mostly between 60 and 65 mph.
My car gets it's best mileage with the cruise set at 80 mph, 2 mpg better than at 65. I would not want to travel 55 in the car, there is no reason to.
No, I don't want to see the speed limit go back to 55.

I hope so. Made sense then, makes sense now.
Probably would be a lot less traffic fatalities too!

I hope the speed limit will not be lowered again... We used to have regular accidents on our stretch of I-95 when the speed limit was 55mph. After it was raised to 65mph, accidents are uncommon now.

Where is the "lets" in that suggestion? It doesn't take some kind of consciences to slow down. Anyone who doesn't believe they'll get MUCH better fuel economy doesn't understand the problem.

Gas is already available! There is no shortage! You don't see any lines at gas stations anywhere! Bad idea!

I'll give you another option. How about the LEO's enforcing the existing speed limits?
