20mph might not be scary, but I just checked the weather for California City and there was a severe weather alert!
WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM PDT FRIDAY
FOR THE KERN COUNTY DESERTS...
A WIND ADVISORY FOR THE KERN COUNTY DESERTS REMAINS IN EFFECT
UNTIL 9 PM PDT FRIDAY.
SOUTHWEST TO WEST WINDS WILL CONTINUE AT 30 TO 45 MPH TONIGHT
ACROSS THE KERN COUNTY DESERTS...AND PERSIST THROUGH FRIDAY
EVENING. WIND GUSTS WILL REACH 60 MPH AT TIMES BELOW THE PASSES
WITH LOCAL GUSTS TO 75 MPH POSSIBLE IN DOWNSLOPE FAVORED AREAS
SUCH AS AROUND MOJAVE AND IN THE WEST SIDE OF THE INDIAN WELLS
VALLEY. THERE MAY ALSO BE AREAS OF BLOWING DUST AND SAND.
PEOPLE LIVING IN THE KERN COUNTY DESERTS SHOULD SECURE LOOSE
OBJECTS THAT COULD BECOME AIRBORNE IN STRONG WINDS AND CAUSE
INJURY OR DAMAGE.
A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF AT LEAST
35 MPH OR GUSTS OF 45 MPH OR MORE ARE EXPECTED. WINDS THIS STRONG
CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT...ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE

It is not only the driving winds that get your awning, but the unexpected gusts that come up when camped. I speak from personal experience. This was the Rally last Easter at Dove Springs.

This weekend up here is not going to be the greatest, a storm is coming, mostly in the form of winds. Rain is expected saturday afternoon and the snow level is expected to drop to about 3000' feet. Temps are 20 degrees colder than this time yesterday. If you do decide to camp, be sure to place the rig into the wind and hang on....
