Hi everybody,

We will be attneding a family reunion in London the long weekend in August 1,2,3,4 and I am inquiring if anyone has personal experience with campgrounds in the area and if that would be an exceptionaly busy weekend due to the holiday. We are towing a 34' fiver dont need a pull through we have learned to back it up :-) .

A good searchable website for Ontario is CampinginOntario.ca

You want to go to the left side, and pick Search for campground. The area you want is Southwestern Ontario.

This is what I found listed near London:

Website is a little slow, but it's not normally so be patient. Looks like the Riverview is what you are after.

The Fanshawe Lake Conservation area has some very nice full hook-up sites (hydro and water); it is just on the north east side of London and can be booked by accessing the Upper Thames Valley Conservation Authority site on the Web. The camping costs are reasonable but as the weekend is the long Civic Holiday weekend I would suggest that the earlier the site is booked, the better.

I would go with Fanshawe Lake. It is a nice area and they have a website where you can make a reservation right now. KOA in London is kind of a field off the 401. Have stayed there but like most KOA's just a quick in and out for overnight.

Would not recommend the KOA unless it has changed dramatically in the last two years. It needed much TLC when we stayed there 2 years ago. The conservation areas are generally maintained to a higher standard, but will not have full hook ups for transients. You should be able to get 30A and water though.

We stayed at the KOA in July 2007 for a couple of nights... it is an okay place to stay for a short term. We had a pull thru site that was easy to get into but the electrical was only 30amp & there wasn't a sewer hookup at the site.
As we were visiting relatives in the area we didn't use any of the facilities, but they appeared to be okay.

Watch for extra charges. Family members popped over one evening to have a look at our new unit. Right behind them was the manager to collect the visitor fee... FOR A 20 MINUTE VISIT!!!!!

EH!

I live in the London area so have never camped here, but have driven past Riverview on my way to work often.....it looks to be very nice and is in a nice location. As others have said, the KOA is typical KOA, and literally backs on to the 401hwy, 6 lanes of some of the busiest traffic in N America ! Fanshawe CA is nice, we have been there for the day, but it is very very busy in the summer.

We have stayed at that KOA several times, we where actually there during the blackout a few years back, and where only 1 of 4 rigs in the campground with a generator.

As more and more people where running out of gas and the stations had no power the campground got full that night.

Thats another story, but this KOA is not typical of the chain, it is old and very tired, and could be a goldmine if the right owners came along.

The pool needs major work, not to mention the entire place.

Use this as a last resort, if you want full service then this place is your bet.

If you are just using this place to camp then you will be okay.

Fanshawe is a Gold Mine waiting to happen, I cant understand why they have not put any real thought into this place, there are no full service sites for overnight visitors, which is incredible in todays camping circles.

Its a great area, level sites might be a problem, but its very scenic, if you dont need full service this would be a good option, BUT make sure you go over in detail what rig you have and what you need, get assurances here.

London in itself is very underserviced in relation to campgrounds, taxpayers get involved!!!
