My neighbor just got from camping in Savanna, Ga. this week. He stopped by today to tell me that he talked with someone at the campground who says that all of the manufacturers are getting away from 3 axle trailers due to the tire failure rate. Anyone heard this rumor yet??

I was going to say "I'd have a hard time believing that, only an idiot would believe it's a problem with the number of axles" but everytime they make something idiot proof they build a better idiot. - edit - ouch, when I read that it sounds a little harsh. I did NOT mean to infer you were an idiot, I meant that the MFR's would be to think that...
So, instead I will simply offer my OPINION: I have a three axle trailer (3x6000lb). They put tires rated to 2100lb's on it. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that if I get close to the axle rating I'll be 50% over the tire load rating. If they put better tires on it (E,F,G rated) there would be no problems.
That's why you see postings about tires here all the time. And as to the number of axles affecting the issue everyone has a "my buddy only has 2 axles and had 2/3/4 blowouts in the same trip" story. The manufacturers simply need to start paying attention to the actual weight and putting the right tire/axle combo together.
Ok, off the soap box. It's almost time to go get the trailer for another weekend away from work!
Don't take life too seriously, it's not permanent.

If they do that, how are the sales people going to tell you that you can tow this rig with your 1987 Mazda B2000??

The only reason I can think off, tire scrub??
Its bad enough on a 2 axel, probably even worse on a 3 axel??

I think he's right about tires and the right weight ratings. when I got my new TT they had different size tires on the four corners. I have since gotten larger wheels and tires and have beaten the blow outs. Knock on wood!!!

I think its an ruse.
That manufacturer uses that excuse to stop selling the larger trailer instead of stating the real reasons, such as:
1. Too cheap to put the correct duty axles/tires on the trailers.
2. Performing too many warrenty repairs and being bad mouthed as a result of the tire damage, so, do away away with the larger trailers, problem goes away.
3. Requires too much gas and the huge units are not flying off the lots.
Take your pick.
Those of us who have gone to LT tires of the adequate weight range and speed rating have seen our tire problems go away.

Airstream has been making a 3 axle trailer for over 25 years with no tire problems.
