Considereing picking up a PW50 for my almost 4 daughter.
Any problems with this as a first bike? Oil injection - any issues.
The local dealer has some '06 models that are under 600$
Anyone have anything good or bad to say about this little bike?
Thanks

There are 3 ridden by kids in my camp all the time. No problems at all, injector works fine. If you ever have problems with the injector you could also go to a premix. All of the kids are 4-7 years old, then they start moving to taller units. A few of them started with training wheels which work amazingly well. They also have a pretty reasonable resale value because the adults won't ride them (unlike the XR50) and they are outgrown after 2-3 years. They are also amazingly easy to start, as soon as the kids have enough weight they can start them on their own.
Don't take life too seriously, it's not permanent.

Thanks for the response. Any issues fouling plugs?

Not as long as your mix is right, I think we pulled the screens out of the mufflers. My kids one son was racing a pw 50 for 2 yrs. he started racing when he was 4. You'll more than get your money out of them.

So do you premix yours or use the injection system? I run super pump at 40:1 in my CR what's the PW require?
Appreciate all the help.

RustySocket,
I agree with all the points that BigDogF250 made, especially about the resale value. I started both my daugthers on the PW 50 at about this same age. The added plus, both girls could outride most of their male friends while growing up. This is a big advantage as they get older.
Both my girls are college age now. The pressure is for them to get on the back of some rice rocket and go for a ride with guys that are sometimes drunk or loaded and want to impress the ladies. Both girls politely decline and offer to test ride the bikes for themselves.
Both girls love having that blonde ponytail hanging out of their helmets. My oldest has a tee-shirt that reads "If you can read this - you were just passed by Daddy's little girl".

PS This was my plan and story to get mom to allow them to ride in the first place. SHE is now a full supporter of the concept.

Great starter bike bought one for my little girl, bought it for $600 (used)sold it for $600 a year and a half later.
I will say, if they can reach the ground on a xr/crf 50 get that it will be used for a longer time before the kids move up to something else just because it is taller and has the 3 speed.

Thanks everyone...
I would really like to get her the crf50.... but she is so tiny and there is no way she could ride it. Our neighbor has one and it is just too big for her.
I'm probably pushing this a little soon but I would love to get her started... she rips around on her electric quad and I'd like to have her hit the trails with me in a few years.
I'll probably pick up the PW for her... went to look at one this evening and feel I can't get hurt too bad for 600$... (that's like 3-4 tanks of fuel on the F350 and no ones' smiling when were all done)... that and so far with my research I can't come up with a real compelling reason to avoid the PW.

Add the TTR50 to the list, rock solid bike and easy to re-sell when time to move up.
