Denial is ignoring the facts. The fact is that we topped off our 90 gallon diesel tank two weeks ago at $3.559 and now that same Flying J in Dallas is at $3.899. I fully realize that change in just two weeks and that we will likely be paying over $4.00 here in Texas soon.

We are planning many local camping trips over the next several months. We also have a 4,200 mile, 20 day trip on tap for summer. We average 10mpg so the math is easy. At $3/gallon that trip is $1,260. At $4/gallon,$1,680. That is $420 difference. It is $840 at $5.00/gallon. I promise that we are not going avoid that trip for that difference. There are a lot of other ways for us to make up the $840.

Do I feel sorry for those on fixed incomes? You bet. This is going to get a lot worse before it gets any better and alot of families are going to suffer. But if we park are RV and don't use it all, how is that going to help anyone on a fixed income??

The kids are gonna wonder what a bunch of lunatics we were when they inherit grampas RV, have to insure and plate it, then take it out for a trip with gas at $8.00 a gallon.

They'll wonder how folks put up with all that shoddy workmanship just to spend a few bucks a mile overall.

If you only look at in terms of dollars and none-cents, then I suppose seeing Death valley, Monument Valley, National Parks, Alberta Badlands, and all of small town America and Canada doesn't really pay.

If fuel keeps it present rising pattern it will also affect the value of your RV as the buyers become less and less with each rise in the price of fuel. Re-sale values will drop big time.

I polled 3 people today and they all said it would be crazy to own an RV. (none were owners at the present time)

Here in Vegas you see lots of large RV's for sale in people's drive ways, if this is happening all around than the used price of a RV must be dropping like the house prices around here in Vegas, we have lost 27% house value in the last 4 months here in Vegas, Gas prices are going to hurt sooner or later because we live in a driving society like no where else, however I don't plan on selling my RV any time soon, maybe because its paid for or I just like a backup emergency home just in case, either way I have cut out my long travel plans in future and only plan to travel close to home, max 500 miles big trips and lots of short trips..

Hi: The higher cost of fuel is having an effect everywhere. People are just compensating for it by cutting back elsewhere. I'm of the opinion that if a person wants to do something badly enough, they will find a way to make it happen. Bill

I have a fairly new and as yet barely used rig so we'd love to (be able to afford to) keep using it until we drop. I'm hoping beyond hope whatever technology "they" come up with to power personal transportaion in the US .... that some clever company(ies) will offer engine retrofits so I can scrap the Ford V10 in my rig and have a powerplant of the new technology bolted right in!

Just got this in an e-mail. We could try this, wouldn't hurt

Subject: Dropping Gas Prices

THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON.

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!!
I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer, and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?
We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that & gt; because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas.
It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $3.19 for regular unleaded in my town.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to thin k that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers.
With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.
The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies
(which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.
If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =
300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x10 =
3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers.
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been con tacted!
If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!
(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one.
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more peopl e within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days !!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

I don't think people are in denial of today's prices. However, people ARE in denial of where the price of everything is going. The rest of this answer has been pre-poofed for your protection.

To me, it's a question of value received. I have regretted a lot of things I have spent money on. Vacations are not one of them. We especially enjoy road trips. So for us, we will keep on keeping on, and look for other ways to economize. Something I don't see mentioned is, if one really wants to go, and they are physical able, maybe some overtime, or a few hours at a part time job would be the solution. You never see an armored car behind a Hearst. And very few peoples last words are "I wish I had spent more time at the office" JMHO
