My old 1000w genny wasn't worth stealing, never worried much about it.

My new Champion will be in the bed of my pickup secured to my fifth wheel frame rails with one of those siren-alert cables. I cannot imagine that someone would be able to drop my tailgate, pull off my tonneau cover, cut the cable (siren goes off), and lug 100 pounds of generator off without that attracting some attention.

Best I figure, with the tailgate down and the toneau opened a bit, I should be able to run it right inside the box with no worries. Sitting on a rubber mat along with the toneau should dampen the noise a bit, as well.

I like some of these ideas, is there something going through the handle of the Honda 2k's that adds some security or just the plastic?

And I don't get how some people question it getting stolen while it's running. I camp at the Indy Motor Speedway and for the Brickyard and the hopefully returning USGP people would start their generators and run the AC and go to bed with them running. So stealing in this situation isn't hard to imagine.

Like many of you, we lock ours to a tree through the handle. I know it can be stolen, but it'll at least take a bit of effort. Nothing else at my campsite is locked. But the genset is worth the modest effort we put in. After that, its insurance I suppose.

We usually don't camp where there are other folks. And if there are, we see them coming a long way off.

We do almost the same thing with one added step. The first cable goes through the handles, as well as through a second cable lock that is locked tightly around the body of the generator. Sure, someone can perhaps use a big set of cable cutters, but not many folks at the large music fests we attend walk around with large cable cutters.

Having the cables this way allows us to freely move the generator around if the wind shifts or whatever.
