Retirement is on the horizon...

I know which states don't have personal income taxes and which states don't have sales taxes but what about locations where you can live in one state but shop in another? Vancouver, WA (no income tax) and Portland, OR (no sales tax) are good examples.

Does anyone know of other locations where this is possible?

We won't be on the road full-time so really aren't looking for cost of registration, licensing, etc., to decide on a location.

You named the one I know about. NH and DE don't have sales tax, but I think all their border states are income tax states.

Might get better answers on the Full Time Forum.

When filing Virginia income taxes Form CU-7 (consumer use tax) is required to be filled out if we purchase an item out of state and that state did not collect sales tax. This includes purchases while traveling or anything purchased with a credit card over the phone or internet. If no state sales tax is collected for that state we are required to list the purchase amounts and calculate the sales tax (5%) we would have payed in Virginia if the item was purchased here and deduct that amount from our refund or add that amount to the tax we owe.

Wyoming has no state income tax, and Montana has no sales tax, but no major cities are very near the borders.

(Actually, no MAJOR cities are to be found in either state.)

You can get the best of both worlds in Anchorage! Plus, they will give you a Permanent Fund disbursement (over $2000 this year) each October. OK, its a little cold.
