During Katrina I had a ford van that high water had wet the carpets. Blue Book had it about $4000.00. State Farm totaled it because of "salt" water, but the area we were in was actually rain water. They paid me $6000.00 and I got it back for $347.00 with a salvage title. To get the salvage title I had to show any repairs (cleaned carpet and changed oil) and get it inspected by State Police (they just wanted to verify vin numbers)
You will probably come out way ahead by buying it back and getting a salvage title. If asked about repairs just state you checked it for leaks and repaired.

If you keep it will you be able to insure it??? My parents went through 3 TT in 3 different hail storms, over 5 yrs, all three were totaled. They really wanted to keep the 1st one it happened to, but the insurance company would not insure it after declaring it totaled.

I wouldn't have to insure it as it would be paid for. I know my present insurance company wouldn't insure it. I guess I could check with some other companies.

Per my earlier post when I got my van back for $347.00 I could only get Liability insurance, but who needed collision on a $347.00 van. You TV liability insurance should cover you while towing and if the price is cheap who needs any other insurance on the TT.

Who did the estimate? 14k seems like way too much damage for hail damage to mainly the front end. I just had the entire roof replaced inc. two ceiling panels and and it was only 56k at the factory.

you can get the whole trailer re skinned for less than 10K for sure with a new roof, so There must be more than just hail damage to the unit???

The damage estimate was $23K but the value of the trailer is $14K. I'm not complaining about the estimate. If I buy it back, I will not fix it. The insurance adjuster is the one who did the estimate.

Down side of having your TT paid for is; your insurance rates will go up having a claim and it will be a strike to your history. Insurance is a business, and they don't build those big buildings by taking financial losses.

Speaking as an insurance professional you will not be able to insure the trailer for physical damage. By paying for the full value what's left to in sure? The salvage value is not worth insuring and any reputable company would reject coverage.
Here is the deal on losses, yes they count against you but weather related much less so. It is also better to suffer one large loss than several small ones, frequency is far worse. For example the poster whose parents had three losses in 5 years, at some point you should figure out that you are in an area prone to hail damage and take appropriate actions.
As to keeping the trailer if it is sound and leak free then it's a good deal.
One thing all owners should look at is a replacement cost (RC) option. As we all know anything on wheels depreciates as soon as it leaves the dealer. With RC you can replace new for old usually up to 4 years.
