Hi,

About 6 years ago we stayed at a campground called Small Country Campground in Louisa Virginia. We deceided we wouldn't return due to some of the clientel we saw staying there. There were some rough looking types hanging around. On one occassion when a friend and I went to check out the horseshoe pits to play a friendly game of horseshoes, we were immediately approached by some rough-looking characters who kept trying to pursuade us into playing for money. We kept explaining that we were not interested in that, and they kept hanging around and continued to try to talk us into it. We offered to play them but justa friendly match, and they would only go for the money match. Needless to say it ruined our planned game of friendly horseshoes. Another thing that influenced us was that the campgound was having a scavinger hunt for the kids. We went to it with plans that our kids could enjoy this type of activity. Well, it became apparent to us when we received the list of items to hunt for, that this was merely a way to have the kids clean up the campground, for instance, some of the items included soda cans, and I was okay with that I guess, but when the list included that they wanted to the kids to find and pick up cigarette butts, we decided to pass on the activity.

Recently at a RV show there was a vendor passing out brochures for the Small Country Campground and he was touting how the campground has added 2 new bath houses, 100 new sites, new laundry house and has invested nearly a half million dollars in improvements.

I decided to check on this forum to see if anyone had any comments on this campground and was surprised when I did my search to see there were none. I was wondering if anyone has any information on the Small Country Campground in Louisa Virginia. Curious if I should continue to stay away or check out the improvements????

We too, would appreciate any feedback. I do recall seeing their booth in Chantilly, VA RV show....at least I think I did. But because of the negative comments over the years, we did not even stop by the booth. But for us, it would be convenient and less expensive on the diesel end too.

New owner? Then you may have something. Last year's reviews aren't too favorable: http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions/Virginia/Louisa.html

Gosh, cannot recall where I read it, but friends, while building a home in Lake Monticello several years ago, stayed there for about 4 months. They told us that it was filled with broken down trailers and a lot of construction people living there. Also, the place just looked dumpy and frumpy and they would not stay there again. Definetly not a resort destination. I thought I read something a few years ago on rvparkrevews.com, but noticed lately that they don't go back as far now as they used to do.

Linda,

The rvparkreviews.com old reviews are all still there. There is a new feature however. At the bottom of the newer reviews there is a link "Display older reviews for campground" that you have to click.

Thank you - I wondered where they went to. I will remember, hopefully, to do the click for the older reviews.

Hey, Thanks for the link to the old reviews. I just read through them,....and for the most part they were as I remembered. A place that should be avoided!!

I am still curious about the "upgrades and improvements" that have been done. So if anyone has stayed there recently or if anyone is in the area and able to ride through and check it out,..please let us know how it is. Thanks.
