Wife and I are in the process of building a new house. The house will have city sewer and water and a tall garage for our Pleasure-Way (Sprinter) -- no RV parking allowed in the driveway overnight. The thought occurred to me that now would be the perfect time to put in a sewer line with screw plug in the garage floor to make it easy to dump our tanks on those occasions when we arrive home with stuff still in the tanks.

Has anyone installed a special drain for this purpose in the garage or driveway? Did you follow any particular plumbing code? Did your building department okay it? Any advice on how best to do it?

BTW, the IRC (International Residential Code -- which my city enforces) doesn't address it at all. There are commercial plumbing codes that deal with it, and the requirements are quite extensive as you can imagine. I don't want something that looks like a campground dump station, just a plug in the floor that will accept a 4" RV dump hose.

We aren't on a city sewer system, However when we had our house build we ran a 3 inch sewer line into our sewer tank to take care of the 5th wheel. Its also for our friends when they visit they have full hook-ups. As long as it is by code I see no reason you would have a problem. The people who install you sewer line can do the job. GBY...

Hi,
We live in a small town in NC, and our codes may vary widely from those you deal with. However, we have a simple clean out port with a screw cap in the line just outside our house in the driveway.Very convenient and it works very well as a dump station. Our port was installed because we have limited drop from the house sewer exit to the sewer line in the street, and there is the possibility of blockage. You might investigate this type of access to your sewer line; all it requires is a tee up to the surface with a screw cap.

Isn't it the same as the clean-out located at the front of most homes? During a one week outage we hooked-up our trailer in front of our house and connected directly to our clean-out. Our clean-out is 4-5 Ft. from the driveway. You may want to check with your builder about having it located next to your driveway.

There usualy is a cleanout required just outside house. That is where you can dump. For residential septic tanks don't put chemical deodrizer in or your solids won't breakdown as it kills the yeast action.

Yes, some years ago we needed major repair to our driveway. Our contractor tapped a line into our sewer line. Simple process. In Los Angeles, code does not permit an RV dump station. So ours is set up as a sewer clean out point to access the line (whatever that means) and my dump hose just happens to fit in the hole. Also have a 30 amp plug on the outside of the house, with an access plug for phone and cable TV.

We to have a sewer clean out next to the house in the flower bed that we use for a dump station. Very handy & easy to use.

You can work it another way. I did. You can tell them you want a wash out in the garage floor or maybe some day have a bath room in your garage. I take it you will run water in your garage? That's what I did. County never even looked at it. I'm 150 ft. from septic tank and house. Just ran 4 inch line under yard. Some times when you start looking at all them codes it just gets harder. It easer to get forgiven. Also you can have clean outs any where you want them. MO2CW CharWan Happy Trails
