This is a good option and will get you away from the crowds.
I'm not sure what people consider crowds, but its crowded from March to November, and very busy the rest of the time, except New Years.
If you have some idea where you will spend most of your time it will help in locating a campground. You can always come into town easier than you can leave for other areas.

While camping outside of town sounds really good folks, is it difficult to find parking, or move around in town? Shuttles available, and the like?

It is easy to find parking every where you go - the issue is the traffic on Hwy 76 gets backed up very quickly all the time - There are colored routes that help you get around without going on 76 - so be sure and pick up a map and learn those by routes -not all the shows are on 76 - none of the campgrounds are - my daughter is down there today and stated they put their Garmin on detour and it took them every where they wanted to go on the back routes away from 76.
if you are not going for the shows - find a campground away from Branson - Table Rock State Park is one - we stay even further away at COE campgrounds -
Try to go to Silver Dollar City, Branson Belle, and somehow get on Table Rock Lake - the only reason to go to Branson!

The only parking, other than at one destination, is normally at the Landing and in old downtown to walk around and its a******shoot.
Camping at the state park puts you in a position to access 76 in 4 different locations without fighting a lot of traffic.
Some believe 76 is a parking lot.
Branson landing is a neat area to shop at and take a walk around. Make sure you goto the Fish Hatchery underneath Table Rock dam, it is Free, and trust me worth it. Ask any local for directions. Bring a dollar in quarters and feed the trout they raise there and stock in Taneycomo Lake that runs through Branson.
If your a boater, or fisherman....rent a boat downtown branson and get out trout fishing on Taneycomo lake.
Hi, The Branson area is very nice. Living so close, I have to admit that we avoid it like the plague. If you want to go to a show, that is great just expect heavy traffic. Go early and stay relaxed. If you are looking to stay closer to the "action" lol there is a very nice privately owned campground in Branson West on Hwy 76 away from the strip called Acorn Acres. It is a very large campground and can fit RV's of all sizes. If you want to really see the area without the Branson Blight head to a COE campground on the lake. Old Highway 86 campground is our personal favorite, but there are several others, just look them up on the web. Old 86 is a beautiful spot on a cove right on the lake. If you want something really fun for adults and kids go for a ride on the "Spirit of America". It is a 40ft. catermaran that runs under sail across the lake on 2 hr. excursions. They have afternoon trips that go out and let you play in the water, and sunset cruises also. I love doing that, no matter how often. Whatever you like to do, there are tons of things to do in this area, it just depends on if you want to get away from people, or get right down elbow to elbow with them. Hope you have a great trip.
I was there last may and was a great time to be there. No crowds and traffic was light. We were there mid may the locals say that is the best time of year to visit. Even Sliver Dollar was'nt crowed. We had no problems going to the shows.Have fun
Hope this doesn't end up as a double post, website is giving me fits. I wanted to thank everyone for their help and input. From the lady taking reservations at Cooper Creek CG, we got the last site on the holiday weekend, which will be the tail end of our trip. I think we plan on seeing a show, doing the dinner and cruise thing, maybe a little fishing and golf if DW sees fit, and just general sight seeing. The price of fuel is of course a concern, as on Mapquest's calculator, this is gonna be about 875 for diesel. Kinda takes a bite out of golf funds. BTW, on a couple of other threads, it was mentioned from OKC to Branson may be toll roads. Any clue of how much for the toll?
