I wanted a canoe with the PU and got it.

DW wanted a porta potty and got it.

We are both very happy.

We just have the simple bucket in a covered plastic container with a toilet seat and lid. It works great!

I decided against having a toilet/shower cassette for 2 reasons...didn't like the design of the rectangle container (I didn't want to mess with corners at a dump station) and it would have added another 400# to tow.

We have a Thetford port-a-potty and use the Doodie Bags that solidifies the waste and the smell is not bad which has come in handy for late night trips (being a single mom, I don't want to leave one or both kids alone), rain and the public bathrooms being too far if the kids left the waiting too long.

This weekend it really proved its worth. We were camping at a beach cg and the water was out for hours due to a water main being busted. The cg bathrooms were disgusting very quickly as they had a lot of tent campers & RVers that didn't want to hold waste or waste water.

We did just fine in the PUP with no additional pressure of having/not having water to flush and had plenty of bottled water for drinking.

The funniest thing that happened is that my DS had to go #2 and I told him to go in alone and use a quick spray of the Febreze air freshner. He totally bombed the whole PUP w/Febreze and we had to ventilate for the overly fresh scent! lol

It is good to realize that if love and peace can prevail on earth, and if we can teach our children to honor nature's gifts, the joys and beauties of the outdoors will be here forever.

It is interesting to see how anal people are - no pun intended. Geez. Poop smells - so? Who changed your kids diapers? Our rv toilet has a recirculating toilet AND a fan! However, my PUP had a cassette toilet. Properly used chemicals eliminate the smell and newer versions really break up the materials involved. With all the problems with STD etc, I would rather use my own facilities - let alone getting bit on the posterior by a spider!

I have a neighbor who dresses in a full-body suit - buttoned to the neck - white gloves - and uses a metal pooper-scooper held as far from his body as possible. One of these days I am going to pick up some poop with my bare hands and watch him puke or pass out

I agree! Everyone has their limits but having rules like no #2 in the toilet baffles me. If you have the equipment sitting there - use it! Don't fear it! Cassette toilets and porta potties are super clean efficient designs. We've been using the cassette toilet in our popup for everything and I have never had a problem emptying it. No smells ever.

Some people just have phobias like me. You'll not catch me sitting on a campground toilet seat that has had every Tom, Dick and Harry sitting on it. After seeing several people, I can guarantee that at least one who used it, was unclean. I don't want to catch their STDs or infections. If I have to use the public campground toilet seat, I clean it, disinfect it, and cover it before use.

Using a public toilet seat to me is dirty and unsanitary. That's why I wouldn't have a PUP without a toilet or porta potty. To me, it's hard to understand why someone would rather use a dirty public toilet seat than their own, clean, toilet seat. Just others have opposing phobias.

Have a good one.

We have always had a porta potty. We are one of those families that would not go without it. We use it for late night emergency's, we have even used during the day on rain days. We have even had to use it during the time CG washroom is closed for cleaning. My DH does not make a big fuss on emptying it as it is pretty self contained and he has never had a mess, it has a easy pour spout. The smell never had one. At night we just shut the curtains on the bed ends for privacy, during the day emergency's it is easier to step out of PUP for a couple seconds than to run out in a rain storm and walk across the CG. It was great for those potty training days, now it is just great for emergency's, OK maybe more than just for emergency's, sometimes it is easier.

Our PUP doesn't have a built in potty. I have also been trying to decide if it is necessary or not. My DH and DS say no way. But I'm the one that get up during the night to go potty. My DH says he will walk with me to the bathhouse but I don't want to have to wake him up just to walk with me. And then if it raining I know I won't want to walk to the bathhouse. I think it would be good to have one just in case. How do I convince them?

I have to tell yawl that reading all the posts here am embarrassed to say we bought our popup in 2006 and with a porta potty that still is sitting in the box brand new. But reading all of your posts has made me rethink about setting it up for us to use instead of those late night excursions in the dark to the CG bathrooms OY!! Although some of the CG bathrooms arent so bad. My DH has told me of the mens side and how icky they are that he has to carry the Clorox wipes with him to use to clean toilets before using them. No place like your own place eh? LOL

Happy trails

Chaviva7, I know what you mean. I don't have one but after reading all of these posts, I think I need one.

We started off tent camping, so we were used to using the campground facilities. Had to sanitize everything before using them, but it was just part of the camping experience. Then we bought our popup last year. Getting a porta-pot was not a top priority for my DW. She kept insisting that it wasn't necessary. . . . I "insisted". Now she can't stop talking about how wonderful it is! (I sure scored some bonus points with that!)
