Anyone have any experience or feedback on the new Forest River XLR's yet?
I just traded in the Raptor 3319 open garage model for the XLR 3912 with separate 12 foot garage (no buggies in my future).
We liked the Raptor, but this XLR seems to be another level from top to bottom.
The Raptor frame, springs, brakes, bolts, and everything else underneath was rusty and crusty since day 1 with no painted protection.
I thought maybe it was just mine, but started looking at other new Raptors on the lots and noticed they are all that way!
Anyway, we are picking up the 3912 on Wed this week, heading for Glamis Fri.
I know they are fairly new models, but looking for some good feedback!
We are also considering the XLR instead of a regular 5th wheel. We permanently park 75% of the time and were concerned that the rear room (hauler room) might not be insulated well enough for our kids to sleep in there. The one we are looking at has the upgraded insulation in the floor and roof but we want to make sure it will stay cooled enough since we are right on the lake in July!
Thanks!
Back from our first outing in the XLR 3912. We loved the layout, the electric air matress couch bed is super, master bed pillow top matress is great, too. Was able to get 4 full size 6 foot long quads into the slighty less than 12ft garage by deflating front tires on 2 of them to pull them up tighter against the other ones with a ratchet strap. We slept 6 great without even using the garage beds, and the kids wanted to sleep in different spots each night. Comparable storage space to the old Raptor 3319 for other stuff, just not as much garage. If you are considering a 12ft garage from an open garage model and just need 4 quads, do it! It's great to open the ramp door in the desert and not have the dust enter your living area, and when your fully loaded you still have all your living space the same! Dissapointed in the stereo system though. Amp and subwoofer not nearly as impressive as they look on the wall! Towed great with the 2500HD Duramax w/air bags, a little heavier than the 3319 Raptor we had. Took it easy at first, then felt very comfortable on the way home!
Still looking for some feedback! Anybody else get their new XLR toy hauler yet? Taking ours back out for round 2 to Glamis this weekend and into next week for kids spring break! Wish I could figure out how to post some pictures, seems to be a chore on this site!
Just picked up my new XLR in mid March. It's a 37X12SA model. Basically a 39X12 with the living area/kitchen floor plan of a standard 37X12. It sure is a big joker. Only had a few loose screws and a couple of dead remote batteries so far. Seems to be built pretty good for a trailer. I agree with ya about the stereo..... Looks better than it sounds. Wonder if it's the way they have it wired. I would have thought that the bass would have put out a little more sound than it does. And don't ya have to love that enclosed bathroom! The sliding door between the living area and the garage is nice too. I looked for 4 months before deciding on mine, so I feel pretty good about the decision.

Congrats! This is my second unit coming out of a Raptor, and I am very happy with quality so far. I actually used the stereo much more on this trip, and appreciated it much more. Its much better than the Raptor was. I used the outside speakers a lot while relaxing on the porch and it was great. Besides the bass, it is good but I notice if I run it loud for long (CD or DVD for television)it starts cutting out, I think the amp is cheap and gets hot even though it has a fan. The Kenwood amp says 800Watts (max) but I have had 200W car amps that blow it away. By the way if yours has an amp similar to our setup, dont forget to turn off the stereo when not using. We made that mistake and came back from a couple long rides and battery was dead. Also, our battery charger popped both fuses and generator was not charging when running. Easy fix, but had to call dealer service to find out where the thing was (behind circuit/fuse box).
When we pulled up in Glamis last week there was a 3712 in front of us. That was our 2nd choice. Love that slider glass door, but ours didnt come with it. I put quads all the way up against that wall in ours.
You are right, these are big units. I dont plan on hitting the forest campgrounds with it.
Thanks for sharing, I will have to explore this other way of posting pics. Will get there eventually.
I visted the Forest River factory last year and their really steping up the quality, every year should be an improvement. Has almost no troublw with my 08 All American Sport, the new ones even look better!
My wife didn't like the Forest River XLR's (too manly for her) grin !!!
We were told the Forest River XLR took the place of the All American Sport. We have an All American Sport w/10 ft garage and it has been wonderful. Haven't hauled the quads yet, but the garage space has been nice to use as indoor/outdoor living space. With the full back screen you can open and enjoy the outdoors on rainy days. Our dogs love it also. Our AAS is one year old with a lot of use.
We begin fulltiming May 28, 2008. Heading from Texas to Tahsis, BC this year.
Happy Trails!
