We have a 2004 Four Winds 5000 28A on the Chevy Chasis with the 6.0 engine. Our gas mileage is in the same range as most of the others. We usually get around 9.7 mpg averaging around 60-65 mph when not towing and around 9.0 when towing at 60.
My 2000 22C Tioga with the 5.4 eng, 4r100 tranny and 4.11 gears got 10.5 MPG last summer pulling a small fishing boat loaded with our stuff on a month long vacation. I get about .5 to 1 mpg not towing. That was going 65 to 75 MPH most of the time.
Stock 99 coachmen 29 foot v10 pulling a cj7 jeep. Flat or mountains, interstate or 2 lane, loaded heavy or light,it averages out to 7.5mpg! Thats not using the dash air or generator! I also pull a motorcycle on a trailer which weighs approx. half the Jeep and no change in mpg.
egh33 wrote: We are still contemplating down sizing to a Class C. Have been looking around at different ones, However can't seem to find out the true gas mileage for the Class C's. Due to me getting older and the price of gas and also that we don't go as much any more, we thought a Class C would really be great. Some of the sales people don't seem to really know what the MPG for the Chevy gasoline motors are. So I figured the best place to get some good comments were right here on this site. We now have a Class A 36 " 3 slides 8.1 Chevy. We get about 7 mpg with Jeep toad. With a Class C 30' or so what kind of gas mileage can I expect?? Thanks
REPLY: Ive got a Class C. 26' , not much cargo , and on emtpy water tanks....i get 10-11 mpg on the highway going 60-65 mph. One key to better gas mileage is to prevent the motor/trans. from going into passing gear with the cruise control on. I take the cruise control off when approaching a steep grade.

On cruise at 55 mph I get 13.5 mpg on the flats with no side/head winds. I don't tow, run full of grub, water, kayak, wine, bourbon, 2 adults.

Ahh if only we all could get away with removing emissions, but then again now we are trading one "evil" (Pollution) with another "evil" (Fuel Consumption), I think I'll take the hit on consumtion cause I would hate to see the "enviro ticket" if I ever got fingered.
BTW, I get between 8.5 and 9.5 towing, depending on terrain and weather.

I feel your pain! We have a Fleetwood Jamboree S26 on a Ford E-350 460ci Gasoline V8 with 4bbl carb chassis and I get 8mpg. I also had a Ford F-250 HD 4x4 pickup with 400ci which we used to pull a 28" travel trailer that got 8mpg with or without the trailer... It's a Ford thing!
Orange you glad you've got an RV? Seems that the general theme of these responses is that while the mileage is poor....most wouldn't trade the their RV, or the lifestyle. Sure, we wish that Honda built an RV, and it got 35 MPG, but we'll have to settle for 8-10 on a good day!
We're about to buy our first MH.....a 2000 Winnebago Minnie 31'.....and we're excited! Will the gas prices slow us down? Maybe, but we've already got about 5,000 miles of trips planned, and we haven't even got it yet!! LOL
I figure that it would cost me a whole lot more to have my house put on a trailer, and towed to the places we want to go.....so having a second home on wheels should have some expenses, but it's still cheaper than some alternatives.
Our trip back from Tennessee (notice the Orange for the Vols), where we're picking it up, will be an eye opener, but we're looking for 8 MPH.....and hoping for better. If it's worse, well.......I guess we'll just have to plan all of our trips for downhill locations!!
See ya on the road!
GO TAR HEELS!!
