I suppose a built-in fireplace in a motor home is a love it or hate it deal. Personally I can't see giving up the storage space for an artificial fire. Just curious as to how others feel.

I am willing to bet that at the end of 10 or so pages of posts, some people will like them and some people will hate them.

Just like the last thread on this topic.

"I can't see giving up the storage space for an artificial fire"

Well, I figure if you want one, might as well be REAL fire. Other wise just turn up the heat and put in a wood burnig DVD and watch the flames on your TV. Not too long ago I saw it in a website, this guy had a wood burning stove in his bus conversion. If I was living off the land (like his family), I wouldn't mind having something like it.

I have had one in my last two 5th wheels. I really liked the electric heat aspect of it. I am a campfire kind of guy so they really didn't do much for me other than the auxiliary heat. It was a nice conversation piece. I don't have one in my motor home and I don't miss it. If the MH I was looking at had one, great. If it didn't, I wouldn't notice. If I was ordering the MH, I would only order a fireplace if it had a large LCD TV in the living area and the fireplace was beneath it. Otherwise, I would use those $$$ on something else.

We ve one under our main tv and love it. We full time and the space that we might have lost is really not noticable. Being in Northern Florida now and in Southern Maryland before we use the fireplace to keep the living area warm and haven't used our furnace at all and only the heat pump about twice. A little chill in the morning makes the fireplace worth while as far as we are concerned.

My reaction is "hate", but bet it would give heat that is quieter than the gas furnace. Better sleep and watching TV.
