Haven't tried it, but have seen a few bent up trailers and tail gates from those who did.

You guys are full of good ideas, the plywood idea is a good one. I guess i'll have to get the trailer out and checkit out this weekend. I don't see how it would be possible to hit the side of the trailer in turns but i will be sure to watch for it when i do my test.

BTW, I am even more proud that no one was worried about my GVWR. We made it two pages without someone telling me that i was going to be over loaded.

Weight is a concern, but I will leave it up to you to decide if you are over weight or not...I guess it all depends on the TV, TT, and the quad...

Some of us don't throw stones at glass houses for obvious reasons!

I have a deck and use an extender due to the "beavertail" on my deck. It does cut the capacity down a good bit, but I'm still within my weights. If you have a tool box, you can lift the front of the quad on to the box and lift your gate. I've also seen two quads in a regular bed with the front one up on end. A headache rack would make me feel safer in that case.

Sideloader decks for quads are sweet if you can handle the extra height and have a 3/4 ton or better. If it's just one quad on a short box and you only need a few inches, I'd build a deck out of wood to slide in the bed and allow the ramp to store under it and leave the gate at home. Just make sure to fasten everything securely and extra straps are your friend.

I got one of these - works great, plus is a secure place to store stuff when the ATV is not on top of it.

Myth Busters did a study on this and found out mileage decreased with the tailgate down. They did it with both a model and 2 identical trucks. If you search their website, it may still be on there.

Apparently when you drive with the tailgate up you are carrying an air bubble that helps deflect the wind and cut turbulence.

You may want to look here at Tork Lift's products that are being used by the truck camper folks that also need to tow.

I can tow with the tailgate down as the trailer hitch configuration allows plenty of room. Not only that, I tow frequently with my motorcycle in the pickup bed as well.
