We are leaving Florida this Saturday and heading for the Texas coast and looking for recommendations on places to see and stay. Were in our 60's and DW isn't very mobile. Don't have any strong ideas but would like to see all that's interesting. Traveling in a 38" Class A
Drop down from I-10 and go through High Island to Galveston via the ferry for a change pace and scenery. As you pass Galveston, stop and visit the historical sailing ship Elissa although it may be out doing sea trials this weekend. And there is always the fishing. In Kemah, the Boardwalk with a variety of eateries and other sites may be of interest. And there is NASA/Space Center and Armand Bayou Nature Center in Clear Lake. How is that for a start? But be aware spring break is going on. Enjoy.
Hello ear-doc2, Be sure to stop at the Texas Welcome Center at the state border (I-10) and pick up the free 2008 Travel Guide and state map. The guide includes good info and grid references on the map. A magnifying glass is a big help. There are myriad things to do and see in Galveston, Houston, and Corpus Christi.
There are a couple ways to leave Galveston to get on hiwy 35 headed southwest. Goose Island State Park is nice and spring break should be over by the 24th. There are many RV parks in Fulton/Rockport and here’s a site of good spots in Corpus Christi. http://www.ccrvresorts.com/.
A ferry ride over to Port Aransas is nice and there are plenty of RV parks. Little to see or do there except fish and eat.
