Hi! We are upgrading from our Hybrid to a full travel trailer. We have two models picked out and deals worked out. One is a Rockwood 831SS the other is the FLagstaff 831QBSS. The Rockwood comes with a free standing dinette. Anyone have this and do they like it. I worry about the wear and tear vs the regular dinette. Any info would be great about the dinettes or campers. We did have bar stools previously that started to fall apart. I worry the dinette chairs over time will do the same. (the Roo is only 2 years old and the stools were not used often)

I'm not sure about your family situation, but we opted for the dinette mainly for the storage. We have 2 small kids and the storage for toys and such has been great for us.

We chose the free standing dinette OPTION on our Rockwood (same model as the flagstaff 831) and it suits us just fine. Much more comfortable than the booth for us since we often travel with friends and trade back and forth hosting for meals. It DOES reduce storage a bit however with none under the benches. We've found that the trailer has so much OTHER storage we don't miss it. It's really a matter or personal choice / needs. Good luck / Skip

There have been numerous debates on this issue and it's a matter of personal preference. We've had both, but prefer the booth dinette because it makes into a bed, has lots of storage under the seats and we find it more comfortable than chairs and table. Other folks like the table & chairs. I guess if you're large, getting into a booth dinette might be more of a problem.

But how do you keep the chairs from flying all over the place?

I personally like the dinette over the free standing. It has more storage and to me is sturdier.

We bought a trailer that we liked everything except it had a dinette table and chairs....I went over to a rv place that did rv renovations and bought a booth that had been taken out of another rv. I brought the chairs into our house and I took the dinette table apart and used the top. I bought 2 posts and the floor mounts and I bought 3 mounts to go under the table top. I also made a spare cushion to go in the back so that when we play games you can put the table off center and 4 people can each sit on a side....We use a folding chair for the 4th side....Every one who sees this set up thinks it is clever.....Then when not playing games it is in the normal position...Plus the drawers under the booth holds a ton of games.....

Clip their wings.
Just kidding.
The table is bolted to the floor and special strap are supplied to hold the chairs in place while in transit.

Our table isn't bolted to the floor, and we don't have straps for the chairs. There are snaps in the wall so we could secure it if necessary. It is close to the back of the trailer, yet we have never had a problem with anything moving around in transit. I suppose if we anticipated rough roads, we would probably tie things down to avoid any problems.
I'm very glad the table is not bolted to the floor because we often turn it as needed to accommodate more or fewer people at a meal. With no children on our travels, we prefer this option.
