The price to haul the camper doesn't bother me because it is worth it...what bothers me is having to have the truck to haul it as an everyday vehicle...we only camp once a month and is usually local...driving that truck everyday is a killer on gas....so, in the near future, I can see us downsizing campers/trucks so that our everyday vehicle can be a more fuel efficient one....But I am never giving up camping !!

Just think about five years from now when you are looking back at today's cheap fuel and wondering why you didn't travel more then.
Five or so years ago, a friend bought a diesel to pull his Avion just before diesel started climbing steeply. He was so disappointed that he was going to sit out the year and not travel. I gave him the advice above.
Here's another perspective -- In Europe, fuel is much more than it is here, both in actual cost or as a percentage of disposable income -- Euros are still traveling in RVs and the RVs are getting bigger.

I don't think there are many 40ft RV's in Europe. BTW diesel is $1.06 more than reg unl at my local station.

Everyone told me I was crazy buying a gas burner in 04! Gee I get 12 mpg towing & gas is $3.07 here Diesel is $3.99 a gal. Lets see a Dmax was $10,000 dollars more than my gas burner? I have plenty of power, I wonder if the diesels get a lot better mileage? Sorry to be a smart alex!

Maybe I am alone in this, but I just don't feel the effect. I am not letting fuel prices keep me from using this thing at all. My family enjoys it and I most certainly enjoy it with a Turbo-Diesel doing the work. I could see if I was driving this thing all over the country all the time, but the average 400-500 mile round trip just doesn't make much of a difference. I was gonna spend it anyways. If my family enjoys it as whole, it is worth every penny I spend.
Dont get me wrong, I hate paying that much for fuel and have a commuter car to help but no way is it stopping me from the family time.

A couple of ideas to cut fuel costs;
Buy a more efficient commuter car. I bought a beater 3 years ago for $1k-it gets 32 mpg. I use the truck for tow duty, ski trips, etc, but keep it parked all week. This has paid off for us.
Maybe go to a moho (A,B,C) again, you would not be using it as a daily driver. You would only be pumping fuel when you use it for camping, then you would not have to drive a big honkin truck everyday.
Just a couple of ideas,

That's a great example. If a guy was using his TV as a daily driver, diesel or gasser, getting a commuter to do the stuff you don't need a big truck for will make all the difference.

For me it the prices won't slow me down. If you burn 400 gals of fuel and the price went up $2 that is $800. That to me is not that much to let it ruin a nice trip. Now maybe some people will not pick on people that bought marginal tow vehicles, at least they have better everyday cars.

I'm very blessed and the cost of fuel won't break my bank. I love camping, but everything is a trade-off. I'm going to make different choices for a while such as staying close to home or do things that had compared more expensive before the cost of fuel went up. Everyone places value differently.
